8:44 a.m. - Yesterday went fine. Amber and I went and watched Brooklyn's first basketball game, which was a hoot. It all reminded me when I was coaching Chase, Carmen, and Cole as well as all of those Saturday and Sunday mornings with the youth leagues and practices that I worked with. That seems like a long time ago, and yet I think I could do it all over again. After that, I quickly got ready to go do some officiating. Marcus and I worked with Mario Melendez, as he filled in for Shawn who couldn't make it. Mario has been to the state finals twice, and he's had some health problems in recent years. He's a good guy and a good official. We had Galesburg and United Township girls, and it was a big game. Galesburg didn't play well, and UT played really well. Of course, from Galesburg spectators standpoint, the officials were terrible. Galesburg may have the most stupid fans in the area. It's one thing to blame the officials for everything, but their comments are just flat ignorant and dumb.
Upon returning home there were three grandchildren and one granddog waiting for my arrival, so it definitely wasn't the quiet night I had hoped for. And later in the night Greg called and needed to have some space from his house, so we watched the Rockridge boys basketball team play on the television and had a bit of a friend-to-friend therapy situation. I'm afraid Greg's relationship with his wife may be past fixing. When he left and the Rockets lost, it was me and Luke trying to get some sleep. Let me tell you that little Luke is not the best sleeping buddy - I think a nap today is on the agenda.
So Amber battled through the morning with Brooklyn and Brinley on getting ready for Sunday school, but the battle ended and off they went. Now it's just Sophie and I in a quiet house. It's a mess with toys scattered everywhere, but I'll make an attempt at those. Also there is the smell of cooked broccoli in the air, as I think later on Amber is going to make a chicken and broccoli pasta bake. I'm going to use the quiet time to gather my thoughts, and work on my foot. It's hurting pretty good today...the usual pain and stiffness in the knee has definitely settled in my foot. Ice therapy and the hot tub is going to get some action. I'm also going to go to Mom and Dad's as I'm pretty sure tomorrow is their anniversary. Amber is working this afternoon, so I'll probably go see them then and watch some football. I'm going to be routing for the Lions and Ravens to win and go to the Super Bowl against each other. Tonight....lounge and get ready for the work week.
