Tuesday, January 16

8:17 a.m. - No school again today.  With a wind chill warning of -30-to-40 degrees, all the area schools are canceled for today.  Right now the granddogs (Sophie and Saylor) are here, and the Harrisons grandchildren (Luke, Brinley, and Brooklyn) are here.  All five of them spent the night last night after arriving in the afternoon.  Needless to say my quiet day of watching football didn't materialize like I had hoped.  That's okay, though, we had lots of activity with all the visitors.

Before the arrival of everyone, I did manage to get the truck started, and I managed to drive up to the maibox.  That was it.  I did get a little shovel work in because the dogs needed a little area in the backyard to go potty.  I think I also fed the birds too.  I did make calls to check on my mom and dad, Carmen, and Cole, and all of them are doing okay.  I also did finishing 1984 in my Dick Proenneke book.  Now I have 1985 to finish, and then I'll be finished with his entire book.  I really enjoy reading his adventures of his living in a cabin in remote Alaska, but it's also a little depressing.  I can tell that all his reporting through his movie and his books has created more interest in his Twin Lakes area, and now he gets visitors a lot more than when he first arrived and built his cabin.  It's been interesting to see him grow and change over his years of journaling his life.  I want to keep reading because I enjoy hearing and seeing his thoughts, but I also fear hearing and reading his thoughts as his journey ends and more and more people invade his life.

By the way...the State of Iowa is stupid.  Well, lets just say the people that claim they are Republicans in Iowa are stupid.  Well, let's just say that 51% of the registered Republican voters who caucused last night are stupid.  The turnout for the event was poor because of the very bad weather, so I'm going to hold out hope that all the smarter registered Republicans realized that battling the weather to vote in a primary that didn't matter anyway was not smart.  The idea that any intelligent, educated person would vote for that guy baffles me except in one condition.  If a person is a Republican no matter what for whatever reason and cannot fathom another democratic presidential candidate, then that person feels that Trump is the only person that can possibly beat Biden, even though he lost last time, then okay.  But the news this morning reported that 63% of registered Republican voters still believe that Biden really didn't win the 2020 election.  What the hell?  One person that was interviewed said he believes in Trump because Trump speaks his mind and speaks the truth.  Again I ask...what the hell?

So today I think we have grandchildren until about noon and granddogs until sometime this afternoon.  After that I think I'll see if Amber wants to get out of the house and do something...maybe have some dinner somewhere.
