6:55 a.m. - Whoa, that was a doozy. Moline apparently recorded the second snowiest day ever, missing the all-time record by just one inch - something like 15 inches. I believe it. I went out to clear the driveway three times yesterday, and it was all a lot of work. Admittedly the middle trip went a little faster for my driveway because Brandon came over with his snow blade on his four-wheeler. So during that event, I went and helped Bob shovel and Ed Shovel and even Brandon's house shovel around the house with the hand shovel where he would have trouble with the plow blade. The snow was heavy and wet again, as the temps really weren't bad; in fact I just had on some tights and sweat pants - didn't really have to bundle up all that much. The sides of the driveway certainly are piled high
After the impressive snow, the winds did start to kick in. Plows were pulled off the roads overnight, and the weather forecast today calls now for continued winds leading to stupid cold temperatures. I'll definitely have to bundle up a little more today than yesterday. The report was for wind chills to be -40....geez. After that stupid warm Christmas holiday with temps in the fifties, now the winter scale is starting to balance out. By the way, last night before I came in for the last time, I made a snowman. I figured with that kind of snow and that amount of snow, I need to make a snowman. It's not a good snowman yet because it needs some shaping and some accessories, but I'll get to that eventually. Also yesterday, I got the snow off the truck that I had parked by the side of the house. I think that was a wise effort. I'm thinking I might just keep it there until this wind dies down. When I keep the truck in the driveway the snow just piles up around the truck; I guess, I'll evaluate that a little later on this morning when I make my way out for the first time.
So what will today bring....I don't think there will be as much shoveling. I haven't yet received word about today's officiating games being canceled, but I find it hard to believe those games are going to happen. I know there is football to watch today, and I'm sure there is basketball to watch. Amber has been watching her Netflix series - The Crown. I can tolerate it, but I will probably do more reading of my book instead.
Being homebound like this reminds me a little of the COVID experience, but honestly, I have not yet experienced any anxiety of being homebound. I have plenty of things to do, and the power has remained on. In fact, maybe I'm the reason the power stayed on. Ever since I got the generator ready, the power has stayed on! I don't think we'll have visitors today, but I'm not sure about that. Amber is supposed to work at Snowstar today, as it is going to open up for the first time all season. Maybe I'll get the truck out and assist her with that effort just to get the truck started and moving a bit. I have a hard time believing, the roads to Snowstar are going to be passable.
