Sunday, January 21

10:18 a.m. - It's been a busy morning.  Amber had some little jobs for me to do before she headed off to work at Snowstar - laundry, cut up some pork chops, and cut up some potatoes for potato soup after she gets home.  Since then, I've been taking care of some paperwork stuff - writing out some bills, sending email messages, etc...

My right foot is really hurting today...it's like my normal pain in my knee just decided to take a break and head to my foot.  Maybe I'll get in the hot tub this morning and see if I can loosen it up.

Yesterday went fine.  I almost had a run-in with a fan from A-Town.  The guy was just a complete ass.  In fairness, he wasn't just an ass to me; he was pretty much an ass to everyone - the players, the coaches, my partners.  And I did what I was supposed to do...ignore him.  He sat on the very first row, though, and apparently my ignoring him wasn't going to be enough for him because then after a time out as I'm walking to my spot, he walks behind me and says "terrible" and then proceeds to exit out of the gym.  I figured he was going to use the restroom or go to the concession stand during the timeout, so I was waiting for him to get back in the gym.  I asked the West Central coach to go get an administrator for me, which he did, and they arrived.  My job as an official is not to address the spectators.  My job is to inform the administration who needs to be removed, and then the administrator in charge handles the rest.  Well, I don't know if the guy was just having to leave the game, or if someone tipped him off that I had asked for an administrator because he didn't ever arrive back.  I'll run into him again, I'm sure, sometime, since his daughter is a freshmen on the team.  There will be a much shorter fuse with him the next time around.  There is no need for him to be such a jerk.

After getting done with our games, one of my so called "former friends" who I officiated a lot with in the past decided to pull a prank on me.  I was heading out to my car, and noticed the car next to my driver's side of my car was pretty close.  As I got closer, I realized it was really, really close, and there was no way I was going to be able to enter my car from the driver's side.  As we were leaving the gym the other two officials told me "Have a nice journey."  I didn't know what they were hinting at when I left them, but now it all became clear.  My boy Tad had decided to be funny.  And to his credit, it was pretty humorous attempting to get my old, fat, tired body through the passenger side to the driver's side just to get the dang car out.  I wanted so bad to return the favor, but I didn't think there was anything I could do.  He had been smart to lock his car, so I went ahead and decided to pull out and get him back another day.  Then as I was leaving the parking lot there were some road detour type of things next to the school.  I went ahead and placed them on his car.  I noticed the school's garbage bin was overflowing with bags of garbage...if it had been warmer, I would have piled them on the car too, but it was really cold out.  And of course, the three of those guys thought they were pretty funny.

After getting home, I just watched football.  The Packers finally lost - thank goodness.  There will be a couple of interesting games today I'd like to watch too.  I think I will go over to my mom and dad's farm and visit with them for a bit.  Of course, I will probably need to get some hay down for the horses as well, so I'll dress warmly.
