5:44 a.m. - It's back to school today from Winter Break with students this time, but it may be a short back to school as the winter storm that has been on the forecast for over a week is taking shape and headed our direction. The first wave of snow is supposed to arrive by 6 p.m. tonight, and 6-12 inches are expected followed by strong winds on Wednesday. Then already this morning another big storm seems to be on the horizon for the weekend. It looks like my exercise will be in the form of shoveling some snow from the driveway and perhaps taking some walking stick walks in the white stuff.
Yesterday was everything I had hoped it would be. First, the project of moving the inflatable hot tub from the back deck to the basement worked out well. The temps outside weren't quite as warm as I had hoped, but that was the only miscue. Everything else went according to plan. Currently, the water temp is at 91 degrees, so I won't be getting in this morning. Oh, I was disappointed with the size of the mat I purchased, as I wish it would have been bigger. By tonight, though, the temp should be where we want it, and it should be ready to go. I also put the dehumidifier down there to potentially help with any humidity problems that may surface.
The rest of the day featured granddogs, the Harrisons, a trip to Dollar General for a few groceries, and a trip to the farm to get some hay down for Grandma Cathy and her horses as well as a visit with her and Grandpa Jim. I think I was back home around 12:30-1:00 p.m., and then I commenced to watching NFL football and college basketball. I did watch the Bears lose to the Packers - again. I think they have lost something like 10 games in a row to the Packers, which isn't much fun for Bears fans.
Today at school the students will be an interesting combination of tired and silly, and that's if they show up at all. Plus, there's probably a lot of sickness going around, so why not bring everyone together for a day just to infect each other with all kinds of wonderful stuff. I don't have any officiating to do tonight, which is just fine since the college football championship is tonight, and I really would prefer to avoid trying to get back in a snowstorm. And then tomorrow we were scheduled to go to Riverdale, and I don't see that happen. Perhaps even most importantly, if this weather event could last into Wednesday night, I'd really appreciate getting out of that trip to Bushnell, which is down by Macomb. So if I were to have no officiating until Friday, I'd be perfectly okay with that, since I wasn't scheduled to work on Thursday anyway. When Mother Nature brings the snow, it's time to stay patient and just wait for her to do her thing.
