7:32 a.m. - Yesterday was a productive day. I was able to get many little things accomplished - haircut, picked up the prescription, exercised a little, purchased camping site reservations, made a payment on the camper, watched Illinois win its Big Ten tournament semifinal game, and attended the Rockridge Softball Rock-n-Roll Bingo fundraiser event. I even watched a little more basketball after returning home. At the bingo event we sat with Randy and Tracy Hollerud, Marcus and Noel Bush, Ann Danner, Gina and Chris Rowe, and Shawn and Mary Strachan. I really don't like attending fundraiser events like that because I think I'm just forking over money for an organization that doesn't really need it. To me, it's like players and parents getting other people to cover the cost of their daughter's participation on the team, which I don't think is right - just so the team can have extra money and buy new uniforms they really don't need. So why do I do it? Good question. Sometimes I just wonder if it would be more acceptable if I just forked over the money and called it good. This event, admittedly, is bearable. I never win anything, but I'm around friends, and the music is fun. A song is played, and if that song is on your bingo card, you put your marker on that spot. I think they give away gift cards for like $10 each. And of course, there are gift baskets and 50/50 raffle, and heads-or-tails. Usually just figure about $100 and call it a night.
Also yesterday I did get a little walk in at Loud Thunder. I'd like to do that again today, but geez the wind is up and the temps are down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Yesterday, I walked around a part of the park I had never been to - at least for as long as I can remember. Maybe when I was little there were trails for horses, but I hadn't been around that western edge since I can remember. I think it was about a 50-minute hike. I found a couple of interesting cutouts into the hills, and now I'm wondering if those maybe were covered up coal mine entrances. Someday I'm going to do a little research and find out where those were located.
Today may be a day indoors all day. One thing I didn't get done yesterday was to get the mower running, but it's so dang windy and cold out. I don't really want to be out there on a mower. I do have some papers to score; I do need to watch Illinois again in the Big Ten Tournament Championship; and I am going to go over to the farm and visit with mom and dad. Oh, and I'm going to have leftover Benny's pizza for lunch or supper or something.
