5:48 a.m. - Yesterday went as planned. I learned from the foot doctor that there is no visible damage or sign of a break from x-rays. He said I could have torn some scar tissue or ligaments which could possibly account for the crunch, and he said he could order an MRI if I really wanted to find out more. His recommendation, though, if I was continuing to improve was just to do what I'm doing and gradually work in more exercise and running as I'm comfortable. He also said working with the different shoes that I ordered in a wider size may take some pressure off the outside of my foot since the arthritis in my knee is on the inside. Get stronger, lose weight, keep icing, complete stretches...get ready for softball - that's the plan.
After the foot doctor appointment, I went to Blackhawk State Park for a walk. It was cold, but it felt good to get a little exercise in. After returning home, I watched the IHSA girls basketball tournament and worked on schoolwork. I scored the Free Read Wednesday assignments and entered those, and I reviewed students' work on their essay assignment. Disappointingly but not surprisingly, many students didn't accomplish the amount of work I had hoped. Maybe today's effort will be better. Last night, Amber and I joined her mom and dad at the casino, in part to celebrate Jack's birthday and their return from their trip in Florida. There was no major winning at the casino, but I did place first in my group at the slot tournament. Later that night at home, I learned I finished 18th overall and was awarded $50 in free play. That's not a lot, but it's better than nothing! And since a slot tournament takes absolutely no skill whatsoever, I'll take the free play.
Today I have a dentist appointment at 8 a.m. in Moline. I'd like to repeat yesterday and get in a little walk, and then come home and watch basketball. I would like to enter scores from Khan Academy assignments, and then I'd like to once again look over the essays that students are working on in order to monitor progress and perhaps offer a suggestion or two. And then tonight, I think Mr. Bush and I are headed to the sectional championship in Canton. That sounds like a full day to me.
