7:44 a.m. - Yesterday went well for awhile. I had some coffee with my mom and dad and gave her the larger coat I had reordered for her for Christmas. I then went with Amber over to Jack and Rhonda's for a little holiday get together with the McKelvey crew, where we watched Illinois lose its football game. I even had communicated with Cole about spending some time with him. I went and picked him up around 4:00 p.m., and then the night went bad from there. He'll be going back to California in a couple of days...it wasn't the type of time I had hoped it would be before he leaves again. I'm not sure when I will see him again. The evening left me pretty deflated...I think my efforts at being a father can now be considered a failure with both sons.
Today I have a few little things to do and then will turn my attention back to officiating. We have a game in Goose Lake, Iowa, with teams that aren't very good. Welcome to 2023!
