5:47 a.m. - Last night didn't turn out as badly as I thought it might. It was a long night, but we got through it. First of all, I picked up Kraig and got to know him a little better. He has a goat farm, which I found interesting to hear about. So talking to him for 90 minutes there and back to Abingdon was fun. The games itself were both blowouts, and A-Town played West Central, not West Prairie - big difference. Unfortunately the night was prolonged with senior night, a cake raffle, youth scrimmages, etc... It's wonderful for schools to do that sort of thing on game nights, but it makes for a longer night for the officials. The third official wasn't exactly fun either. He was okay, though.
Yesterday at school, I spent each of the English III periods explaining the Socratic Seminar process, and that went fairly well. I think we are ready to give it a try on Thursday after Free Read Wednesday today. Tonight we go to Wethersfield to officiate girls. I should say we, but what I mean by that is Tony and I drive to Wethersfield, and we'll be joined by Andrew Teel. Andrew used to play basketball for me at AlWood, so I'm glad he was able to fill in for our crew because Marcus is out sick.
A Free Read Wednesday will be a welcome site today. I'd like to start a new book - Proenneke's next book of journal entries about his adventures in Alaska.
The IHSA still hasn't pushed out postseason assignments for the girls basketball tournament. Maybe today will be the day. It sure seems late. I usually get excited trying to figure out where I would like to be assigned, only to later be surprised at being sent somewhere totally different. Now I'm beyond the excited and surprised stages...just would like to know so I can make some plans for next week. I have a couple of boys games that I'll need to get out of if my assignment falls on those dates. If it doesn't fall on those dates, I'll have a very long week next week.
