Tuesday, February 6

5:25 a.m. - There are things in our lives that are out of our control.  When one of my officiating partners gets sick, it's out of my control.  When the partner that is the replacement doesn't know what he's doing because he's so inexperienced, it's out of my control.  When another partner decides to go a different direction and not make himself available, it's out of my control. When two teams that are left with an inexperienced crew get together and want to beat up on each other, a lot of it is out of my control.  Last night's game at Monmouth-Roseville was awful.  The only thing that was in my control was to just do my best and survive it.  Enough said...move on...and tonight could be a repeat.  Ugh.

Yesterday at school, things went okay.  I'm ready to move ahead with today's lesson, which is to have our first socratic seminar.  Today is a prep day, tomorrow can be Free Read Wednesday, and then Thursday we can have the seminar activity.  The activity is just a formal process to attempt to have a meaningful discussion of a particular topic.  With some groups of students, it works well.  For other groups, it's a bit more challenging.  It's an important skill, though, to be at the table and be expected to make a meaningful contribution but also be a considerate and respectful listener.

This morning, I'm going to get in the hot tub and try to let last night's debacle melt away from my memory.
