7:28 a.m. - No school today! It's Presidents' Day, and I'm really not sure that it's a day that should be a holiday from school, but we'll take it. I did notice that the sun is out earlier this morning. I know of course that we are going to be getting longer days now, but there always seems to be a morning that makes it more apparent. Yesterday was an okay day. In the morning I got in a stretch, and I worked on my softball umpiring exam. I did get 100%, so that's good.
The foot is feeling stronger and stronger each day. I keep icing it when I am sitting around, and I'm avoiding any running at all. I still have some discoloration around toes four and five, and I feel the pinpoint of where I think the fracture is in the bottom of my foot. My big question I have now is to determine the best type of shoes to get moving forward. I think I need wider shoes, as narrow shoes and my arthritic knee may be putting excessive stress on the outside of my foot. I know I need the knee replaced, but that reality isn't reality right now. Maybe next Spring...that's something I've been putting some serious thought into.
I watched a move last night. The movie was A Man Called Otto, and Tom Hanks was the start of the show, even though one of the minor characters may have actually been more powerful. It was an incredible movie, and a movie I needed to see right now. Otto is very bitter about the blows and misfortune that he and his love of his life were handed. What happened to them wasn't fair at all, and when she passed away, he felt that he had nothing left to live for - to the point where he was focused on joining her in death by attempting to commit suicide. Suicide obviously is a pretty serious topic, but it's discussed and handled in this movie delicately but seriously. As viewers we can understand his pain. The movie uses flashbacks for his memories that help us not only understand his joy and pain but also feel his join and pan. Our hearts lighten with his joy; our guts feel punched with his pain. The ending is excruciating but also wonderful. I selected the movie because it was listed under comedies, and Tom Hanks was in it. There are definitely parts that are funny as hell, but I'm not sure that the comedy label for the overall movie is accurate.
Today, Tyler and Carmen are coming over. I need to get my things done this morning, and I need to tidy up the house - not just for them but also for Amber's return on Tuesday night. After Carmen and Tyler visit, I'll head to Milan and get some stamps, and then I think I'm going to spend some time at mom and dad's. The Daytona 500 was rained out yesterday, and they are going to try again today. Dad is a huge NASCAR fan, so I thought I would just spend some time with him and watch the race.
I also want to revise my lesson plans a little, but I think I should have time for that either before Carmen and Tyler arrive or after I spend some time with mom and dad today.
