5:22 a.m. - All is quiet. Amber is in Florida. She made her way on a flight yesterday morning from Quad Cities to North Carolina and then to Pensacola, where her parents picked her up. The first place she went was Bucky's (I don't think it's spelled that way.) And while there she ran into some family of hers. So she had a really nice day yesterday.
My heart and soul weren't into being a teacher, but I muddled through it. I think I need to change some lesson plans around today, so I think I'll be better next week. This was just a tough week on me emotionally and physically. Yesterday, too, there were some students struggling with the death of the Fielding boy.
Yesterday after school, I went to HyVee and picked up some groceries for my bachelor weekend. I also picked up the prescription I needed refilled. I then came home and made a big salad and some soup and watched basketball. I couldn't get the Rock Island versus United Township game to watch Marcus and Tony, but I did get the games at Lewistown and Princeville, so I got to watch Jason, Robbie, and Shawn. Their games went well. I also learned yesterday that Brian Rewerts has been the assigned the state finals again, so that's good news for him. Now I just need to mentally make it through next week knowing that I should be working those postseason games.
Today, I'm going to try to stay busy and get some things done. I think I will make a to-do list on the counter and just scurry around and stay busy with those little things. Here and there I'll stop and do some ice therapy on the old broken wheel. It feels better and better each day. I don't think walking around in the boot is the answer. I think staying off if it is the best answer. That boot doesn't accomplish what I need, which is to try to keep the weight off the bottom of my foot. I sometimes move it and think I was stupid for going to the doctor and dropping all of my games next week, and then I'll put pressure on the outside and a sting will go up the side of my foot and leg, and I'll be reminded and unfortunately assured that there was no way I was going to be able to run. Or perhaps if I did try to run, I was just going to tear up something even worse - bones, tendons, whatever.
I wonder sometimes if a "grander plan" provided me this injury as a gift of some sort. Maybe I wasn't ready for next week; maybe I need to be healthier - leaner, faster, more agile to truly do the job. Maybe I need a year to really drop some weight, get stronger, get faster, and then truly look the part and make a run at eventually being selected to work the state finals. I also sometimes wonder if my injury was bestowed upon me so others would have chances to work postseason and experience those games. I don't know if I'm just trying to make myself feel better or not....just wondering I guess.
So today in the morning....hobble around and get some things done. Today...nap and watch basketball...tonight? Not sure. I invited Cole over to spend some time, but apparently he's busy. That's okay...Bella is here, and she is good company. Plus, I have my book. I just want to make good use of this quiet time; there definitely isn't much quiet time in this home normally. :)
