7:16 a.m. - The country is in a hot mess of COVID.  The number of cases hit an all time record yesterday, and that's since the pandemic began.  Omicron appears to be less damaging, resulting in fewer hospitalizations and deaths, but it spreads easier making more people sick.  This morning Davenport schools and other smaller parochial schools have cancelled due to bus driver shortages.  Today Governor Pritzker of Illinois is scheduled to make an announcement.  On the Today show this morning, the former CDC director said the next six weeks are going to be very challenging.  I must childly admit that with below zero temps, snow, COVID, and still short days, it's very comforting to be able to avoid school this morning.  I need to get more schoolwork finished, but I won't have to hurry, as I did get some done yesterday.  I also have a game to officiate tonight, but with all this COVID stuff, I'm wondering how long that is going to stay.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Governor pauses reopening of schools; I'm just curious about how long that pause will be and if extracurricular activities will be affected.
