Thanksgiving Food #1 1st Period

Because I'm older, Thanksgiving for me is a time of reflections on what the holiday use to be, so I'm going to go with something that perhaps you may find odd - gravy.  My mom's side of the family were old school, so everything was made from scratch, including the gravy.  Now I have tried to make gravy before, and my effort was awful.  And you can by gravy at home.  In fact, a little side note is that my brother-in-law works at Kraft-Hines in Muscatine and apparently his plant makes like the majority of gravy that is sold in the United States, at least that's what he says.  But let's get back to the topic.

So gravy comes in light gravy or dark gravy right, and I remember we always use to have a choice.  And gravy obviously goes with mashed potatoes - homemade, not out of the box.  But I think gravy also goes well with the homemade stuffing.  In fact, homemade stuffing and gravy really is something for me that is pretty much Thanksgiving exclusive, unless there is also a turkey at Christmas.  So Thanksgiving for me is not the total deal if there isn't homemade stuffing and homemade gravy.

But some folks don't stop there, right?  I've seen family members pour gravy over the mashed potatoes, the stuffing, and the turkey.  Gravy practically everywhere.  And let's be honest, homemade gravy isn't exactly a healthy food items.  Flour, fat drippings, salt and other seasons basically is the recipe.
