5:17 a.m. - I woke up early again...seems to be a trend. I wake up around 3:00 a.m., and then I start thinking about something and can't fall back to sleep. So I went out to the living room, watched a little CNN, finished up reading A Christmas Carol, and then balanced my checkbook - which I realized and caught a couple of mistakes. So basically, I was Scrooge today...irritated and up early, catching up on the news, and settling my accounts. On the other hand, I'm hoping to observe Christmas Past, Present, and Future in my life!
In other news, the IHSA released information last night that seals the fate of starting basketball in Illinois for the rest of 2020. The IHSA apparently has given up its fight since the Governor rolled Illinois back from Phase 4 mitigation efforts to Phase 3. He did state that schools could remain open with full instruction by their choice but that most schools were going full remote to assist in decreasing the spread of the virus. From what I understand from our school district, CUSD#300 will avoid going full remote unless there just aren't enough adults left to run the building, even if it means subs filling in spots - administrators, teachers, paras, custodians, kitchen, bus drivers...whatever it takes to keep bodies in enough of the roles we are going to do. I'm not necessarily saying that the emphasis on providing and education to the students isn't admirable, but the cost to the school district employees and healthcare system is taking a back seat, and I fear the long-term effects of that cost. The latest information Mr. Miller has released is that CUSD#300 won't do anything different until November 30, which is the Monday after returning from Thanksgiving break. I could see CUSD#300 trying to continue to keep the building open, I could see going back to the hybrid model, and I could see falling into full remote for the days in December leading up to Christmas/New Year's break.
