So yes, turtle, was mentioned. I must admit that I'm trying to imagine the display of turtle on a plate on the Thanksgiving table, and I'm curious. We know what a turkey looks like; we know what a ham looks like; I'm curious how turtle might be presented.
Speaking of presentation, which I know is a little south of the topic of food, but just the idea of presentation almost is as exciting as the the meal. Almost like a tree that has all the packages underneath...it's the images of the tree with the packages that add something magical. I think just before the tradition of the eating occurs, the magic that is the presentation of the meal with everyone around the table appeals to me. Can I pause for a moment here?
I wonder if there are any "old person" traditions that must occur at your Thanksgiving that get most of the young folks rolling their eyes. For example, I've heard of some families going around the table and stating at least one thing they are thankful for this year. That seems okay, but I'm guessing you silly teenagers may have an eye roll...like "C'mon Grandma, do we have to do that again?" Or is there a special Thanksgiving blessing that must be said by a certain person? Or does the head of the table and family get to carve the turkey right there on the table as the meal starts? I hope if your family has some little tidbit of specialness that you share because at my age, I love to hear about all the unique things that happen at Thanksgiving...even if they are a little quirky.
As far as food goes, getting back to the topic, I've heard Mrs. Mitola mention green bean casserole, and I think that has become more of a tradition that I remember growing up, so I wonder what traditions are more modern when it comes to food.
