6:16 a.m. - Cole's birthday is today - he's 24, which seems really weird. Time does fly. I had a couple of weird dreams last night...I'm sure there is a science of dreams, but dreams interest me.
Yesterday went fine. The school day went fine. The softball games at Monmouth-Roseville tested my patience level, but we survived. Neither team was very skilled, but neither team really seemed to to have a desire to hustle. I get that sometimes skill or athleticism is low, but something that is in a team's control is to hustle. Hustle on the field; hustle off the field; have energy toward teammates. Work your best to make plays. Those are all things in a team's control. When I'm umpiring and teams are walking around and clowning around in a high school varsity game...well, my patience level gets tested.
Today should be okay. I have one game at United Township, and I'm on the bases. The weather could mess things up a bit with winds and spotty rain showers. I do get to see my friend Tony tonight, as he is umpiring on the JV field. He called me last night to report that he was hit in the neck from a foul ball while umpiring being the plate. I've never heard that happen before. It's not uncommon for plate umpires to get hit, but to get hit in the neck...ugh.
