Thursday, September 16

5:40 a.m - I had an afternoon of accomplishments yesterday.  I went to a new eye doctor - finally getting that process going after the ridiculous situation with Eye Surgeons Associates.  Then I drove to Gulfport and dropped off the title to the JayFlight to the new owners.  Then I piddled around in Burlington for a little while before getting to see Carmen for a brief visit.  It was a late night getting home, but it was worth it.   The hectic week continues tonight...I'm going to try to get to LeClaire, IA for a 4 p.m. junior high volleyball match...I need traffic to be nice to me.

This morning we have a staff meeting at school to "discuss" ways we teachers can increase our support of students with extended absences.  I'm not pleased about the topic of this meeting, and I voiced my opinion to our building principal.  My guess is that she's not pleased with my voicing of my opinion.  Meantime, on the news this morning the "mask controversy" is getting hotter in some Iowa school districts now that a federal judge basically tossed aside the governor's ban on mask mandates.  Now some school districts on their own are imposing mask guidelines for their students, and apparently the school board meeting in Council Bluffs went a bit off track.  I guess off track is a mild label with eight police officers had to be dispatched for the "verbal dispute".  I wonder if our parents and students and community members will feel better about mask usage if Iowa students now have to do it.  That had been one comment I had heard often...."They don't do it in Iowa."  I find it interesting that schools are basically now defying the governor in the opposite direction that some Illinois schools were defying the Illinois governor.  And now a variety of area school districts are attempting to get "public input" - Davenport, Muscatine, Burlington, etc...  The same crap show is going to appear at those meetings as well.
