6:06 a.m. - Last official softball game occurred last night, I think. I'm never sure when I say "last", but it's the last I had on my schedule for now. It was a good one - 1-0 with the winning run scored in the bottome of the 7th inning. Now it's Friday, and it's supposed to rain, and there is supposed to be some type of pep assembly outside. We apparently are allowed to wear jeans; I think I'm going to wear shorts. It's also Hawaiian theme, but I really don't have anything Hawaiian, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Today, I'm going to attempt our first journal entry and share with students, which could be interesting. We'll see how many of the anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-anything students need to voice their opinion. I am looking forward to the three-day weekend even though we really have been in school for a couple of weeks. I do have a chiro appointment today, and I think I'll probably get a haircut too.
In other news, I watched a volleyball match at the high school last night. Being at school, watching that match, and hearing the increasing reports about the delta variant of COVID...we are heading towards shutdown mode again, and I really don't want to miss out on all the basketball officiating money I have on my schedule. Christmas is around the corner, and I really need the money. There just aren't enough people who are concerned enough about the risks associated with the virus. Apparently, it just hasn't hit close enough to enough people to really have an impact. I'm saddened about that, but it becomes increasingly obvious every day that without better widespread adherence to masks and vaccines, the chance increases daily that there will be a bigger outbreak here locally affecting more people I know. In my opinion, we could have avoided something like that, but I know there are many, many people that just don't believe in the risk or believe everyone just needs to get it because it's no different than the flu.
