5:29 a.m. - The house is quiet this morning. Dang television isn't working well, so that's a pointless effort. The "bugs" are still getting worked out over the whole switch from Mediacom to Reynolds Telephone Company for internet service. Amber woke up early and went to a morning workout at Turning Pointe. The only people left are me in front of this computer and the cats - Stormy and Bella. I'm not particularly upset with the lack of television, which basically for me is lack of access to sports channels and news channels. Right now, there is no college football and no college basketball, which are the two sports I most want to watch during the year. And as far as news, I can pick that up anywhere. Apparently yesterday the jury in Minnesota found Chauvin guilty of all three counts he was charged with. My guess is there will be an appeal, and I'm honestly surprised he was found guilty of murder, but I can understand it. For me, the fact that he seemed unaffected and didn't bother to even try to give aid once Mr. Floyd was unresponsive factored in more than I had considered prior to the case in the courtroom. A jury is made up of people, and I have to believe that the jury felt because he didn't render aide, he didn't care about the person that was injured, and if he didn't care, he must have done it intentionally. That's at least my theory. I wonder how law enforcement across the country will move forward. Cell phones and body cameras have definitely made their jobs more visible...there is less room for poor judgement without consequences. Because of that, I wonder if attracting and hiring law enforcement candidates will become even more difficult. Today, I have my first softball game, but I'm a little confused. I thought I was going to Sherrard to umpire Alleman and Sherrard, but over Twitter I saw a message that said Rockridge was going to play Sherrard. Well, that will be interesting. I don't think I'll say anything to any softball players today, and I'm not sure if I'll have the plate or be on the bases. My partner can choose what he would like. At school a rep from Midwest Technical Institute is visiting. She seems full of energy and excited about visiting and speaking in front of the students, and this is an opportunity for non-traditional students to see a path that may fit them more - a path that is polar opposite of a private liberal arts college.
