5:38 a.m. - The last night of junior high girls basketball occurred last night for me and officiating basketball. That's one set of officiating attire (suitcase) I can soon remove from the HHR. Now I just need to get through two volleyball matches at UTHS tonight and Thursday, and I can remove another suitcase. At last night's game I managed to refrain from getting too irritated. In the 8th grade game there was a spectator (parent) who just was dumb. And he wasn't dumb in a close game, this game was lopsided...real lopsided...and he was just saying dumb stuff. Granted, he was probably frustrated watching his daughters team get trounced again, but why do the officials have to be the receiver. Then we had a running clock in the fourth quarter because the opponent was up 40-2, and the coach losing was upset because we weren't going to have a mask time out. Keep in mind, it wasn't me that made the decision to skip the mask timeout, but STILL...IT'S 40-2, and your team's two points started the game in the opening minute of the game. "Coach, you've given up 40 straight points, what does it matter if we have a mask timeout when the clock is going to run and this is all going to be done in 6 minutes?" Geez.
Today is the one open day that was built into the training path series. We are going to have a free read session and talk a little about costs. My hope is to help students understand that the costs of a training path are derived from the funding sources that these paths receive. Students need to know that costs aren't necessarily associated with quality of education.
I'm looking outside, but I can't see anything because it's dark. One thing I don't see is a snowstorm, so maybe we didn't get any snow, or maybe we only got a few flakes. The temps are supposed to be very cold today, but a gradual warm-up is supposed to take place the rest of the week. I hope tomorrow is at least in the 50's since I'm scheduled to be on a softball diamond in Sherrard.
Below I entered my softball schedule 4/26-7/2 is a long, long high school softball season. There was a time not so long ago that I felt a little guilty blocking my Arbiter for Friday and Saturday dates. I just don't want to schedule myself for high school softball for weekends, so Amber and I can potentially take the JayFlight out and find some peace and quiet in a campground somewhere. When I look at that schedule, though, I don't feel so bad. I'm working enough...I'm doing my part. Until I put it all together on this page, I didn't realize how June weekends were pretty much eaten up with IHSA post-season. On normal years that wouldn't occur. The other thing I noticed was that I'm at Burlington a lot. On normal summers that would be a pain because of the drive, but my daughter Carmen is going to be moving to Burlington, so that will give me a chance to stop in and say hello when I'm there.
