I've tackled the Capitol and vaccine topics previously first and second periods, so I'll take on the snow topic. Honestly, I like that the snow is literally sticking around. I think it's pretty and it makes our region of the country what it is because we get a variety of seasons. I wish this snow would have been around like this for the Christmas holiday, but at least we are getting some snow. And I like the fact that we have snow on the ground that has stuck around for awhile because I usually end up hand shoveling a lot of snow off my driveway when we receive a storm. I do have an old John Deere snowblower, but it's not always reliable, and besides, shoveling snow is a good exercise, especially the heavy wet snow that we have received so far. Now I'm not an ski person or snowboard person or snowmobile person, but I do like that local folks get snow to take advantage of those interests. I can tell you that after my doctor appointment last Friday, I did go out to Loud Thunder and took a hike on the north side of the park down by the spillway, which was still running, and that was surprising. Hiking on a snowy trail is fun because it seems for some reason to be more quiet and peaceful. Admittedly there were spots that I had to crunch through the ice crust, and I also think that I allowed some previous person to lead me astray because I'm pretty sure the path I followed wasn't the trail because I never made it down along the river. Still, 50 minutes of tromping around the woods with my new hiking shoes and my trust walking sticks would have made Thoreau and Proenneke proud of me, and I would recommend the activity to everyone. Some additional signage would help, but that's another topic for another day.
