8:21 a.m. - Here's the recipe for gaining three pounds in one day.  First, officiate eight games two days prior to tell your body that it's going to be exercising non-stop and will need to store a lot of energy.  Next, the next day, get very little exercise...say maybe 15 minutes on the indoor bike, and then do virtually nothing else physical the rest of the day.  Now your body is working hard to conserve energy and store up reserves for the next time you have to officiate eight games.  Finally, order Shang Hai Chinese food for supper - garlic chicken, crab ragoon, egg rolls - BECAUSE IT'S SO YUMMY! Don't stop there, though, finish up the night with some Doritos, cookies, and a couple of glasses of milk.  And there you go - 3 lbs. in less than 24 hours!  In other news, I watched President Trump campaign for the Georgia senate run-off election last night.  I really wish I could say the spectacle and the "rant" amazed me, but he's beyond amazement.  I don't know what is going to happen between now and the certification of the Electoral College and President-Elect Biden's inauguration, but here's thing I do know - nothing....and I mean NOTHING...will really be a surprise.  A phone conversation he recently had with Georgia state officials has him either begging or indirectly ordering a "recalculation" of the vote totals.  AND PEOPLE BELIEVE THE CRAP THAT PROJECTS OUT OF HIS MOUTH!  He's calling on his loyal followers to march on Washington, D.C. and that he will join them.  He's calling on representatives and senators to object to the election results.  He's calling on the Vice-President to overturn the election results.  HE'S OUT OF HIS DAMN MIND!

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (1/5)
    The surge doesn't seem to be happening in Rock Island County nor the State of Illinois, and people are really complaining about the current restrictions that are in place.  So basically the virus isn't out of control in Chicago like it is in Los Angeles, and I don't think it's rocket science to figure out why.  Plus, our neighboring states have less restrictive guidelines, but again, I don't think it's rocket science to figure out that if Illinois just dropped restrictions that neighboring states would be affected by increased infections, hospitalizations, and deaths.  Now that the holidays are over, there is going to be increased pressure to open Illinois back up - open up the bars and the restaurants and the casinos and the schools and the sports.  And the pressure is going to rise and rise and rise, and then what's going to happen.  That's the one million dollar question isn't it?  And now there is talk of this new variant virus from the United Kingdom which has been discovered in the United States, and now there is also talk of perhaps an even worse variant in South Africa.  I've been SO fortunate so far, and the vaccine is now near, and we've only got a couple of hard winter months left.  I just hope and wish and hope and wish we can get to April.  We are going to have a new President, and I'm wondering what the effects of that will be.  There is going to be pressure to have sports in Illinois, and I'm wondering what the effects of that will be.  I'm going to be returning to the classroom tomorrow, and I'm wondering what the effects of that will be.  As bad as things have been elsewhere, Illinois (and Iowa) have faired much, much better, which is a blessing.  It's almost like we are three quarters of the way through a marathon, but the last stretch is going to be the most challenging.

  • ILLINOIS PREVIOUS DAY
    • hospitalizations - 798
  • ILLINOIS YESTERDAY
    • hospitalizations - 816
  • ILLINOIS TODAY
    • hospitalizations - 800
  • ROCK ISLAND COUNTY
    • YESTERDAY
      • RI County - 11,163 positive cases; 226 deaths
      • 61284 - 177 reported positive cases
    • TODAY
      • RI County - 11,208 positive cases;  227 deaths
      • 61284 - 177 reported positive cases
Holy Spirit...
Help me have...
    a pure heart, that I may see;
    a humble heart, that I may hear;
    a heart of love, that I may serve;
    a heart of faith, that I may abide in the spirit.
