Saturday, October 5

9:43 a.m. - Amber and I finally had some camper time last night.  She had some things to do, and I had some things to do, and Luke was with us for awhile before being picked up by the rest of the Harrison crew.  Today, our camping weekend is paused to go to a youth football game and watch the cheerleaders.  Then I hope to return to the camper for the afternoon, even though the temperatures are supposed to be quite warm for this time of year.  It was nice to have a campfire last night.

Yesterday was a whirlwind.  It was Fire Safety Day, and in an unusual and cruel plot twist, Johnson Controls was there to inspect our fire alarm system, which apparently needs some repairs.  The fire drill wasn't what I anticipated, but we got through it.  The experience the kids had at the Fire Department was amazing.  I walked around to see the stations the kids had, but then I went back to the office and attempted to get some work done.

Friday, October 4

6:01 a.m. - Yesterday after school, I pulled the trailer to the campground.  It was so nice and quiet and peaceful that I just spent the night there and drove home early this morning.  I did drive to Andalusia and filled up the gas tank in the truck and picked up some groceries.  And when I got back to the camper I ate and then tried to watch MeTV, but it was a struggle keeping my eyes open.  And then early this morning I had a weird dream.  I was dreaming that there was a hole in the camper room and I was getting rained on, and it was really actually raining outside.  I was terrified in my dream because I just paid off the camper recently, and in the dream the ceiling was falling in and I was getting wet and trying to find the hole....weird.  I was relieved when I woke up and I was actually not getting rained on in the camper.

Today is a big day at ICE....it's fire safety day.  Of course it's my first time, but apparently this is one of the most fun days of the year.  For my part, I'm just going to follow orders and try to learn how the fire alarm system works.  I'd like to get the day done and get back to the campground.

Thursday, October 3

5:27 a.m. - Yesterday was another busy one, and we survived at ICE with first-time substitute as our building secretary, which is no small feat.  That secretary job is an integral part of how are day functions and thrives, so being a sub is not easy; having it be the first time the sub is in the building really isn't easy.  Last night I had our first parent/guardian information night as well.  I conducted three presentations starting at 5 p.m..  I wouldn't call the effort a complete success, as the turnout from folks was pretty small, but it wasn't a failure either.  I would say there were about 15 parents that attended, and that's 15 parents that received the information that are now more knowledgeable about the building, and they now have more information that they can share with their friends and family.  Plus yesterday, I got campground reservations made for this weekend and the last full week of October out at Loud Thunder.  I'm going to get the camper out there this evening after school.  

So what will today bring?  Of course, that's always a loaded question because each day seems to bring with it something new and something surprising.
