6:16 a.m. - Yesterday's highlight was to drive to Eldridge and look at a Ford Escape. It's a 2009 with high miles, and I really don't want to purchase it. I'd really like to get something newer and better. From a practical standpoint, though, it makes more sense to purchase this high mileage vehicle than it does to purchase something new that will carry with it a five-year loan. In addition, I don't really need another truck, so this SUV will fit in the garage and be indoors for some of its remaining life. I just need the Escape to last about four years until I get the truck paid off. And then I can look at something nicer for myself. So this will be a purchase I'm not comfortable with based on need and circumstances versus what I would really like to have for myself. It just is what it is.
The rest of the day yesterday was okay. I got in a little exercise, and I watch some television, and I finished reading the book that Carmen got me for Christmas. Marley was good. It was an interesting style of writing, and it was interesting to see the creative mind of the author. The story didn't fit the best in certain places, but maybe that viewpoint is based upon my favorite Christmas Carol movie instead of the book itself by Dickens.
The Southwell grandchildren arrived around 5 p.m., and they spent the night. I'm told they will be here in the morning until about 9:30. Then I think I remember hearing that Kollyns will be arriving this afternoon for a few hours. I'd like to watch the Bears game this afternoon, exercise some more, and continue to try to heal my legs with hot-cold self-treatments. It's not a horrible way to spend the last day of my Christmas break. I am bummed about finishing my book, though. I'll did bag into my Lincoln book.
In other news, the U.S. and President Trump kidnapped Venezuealan president Maduro and his wife to bring them to the U.S. to faces various criminal charges. Apparently it's okay for the U.S. to just bomb boats and kill people that may be carrying drugs, and it's okay for the U.S. to avoid prosecuting it's own President over criminal charges, but it's okay for Trump and the U.S. to take this action against a foreign president without the pre-approval of Congress. It's also notable that I guess it's okay for Russia and North Korea and China and anyone else to do the same with other foreign leaders those countries see that are charged with various crimes. So much for America first. Trump is making his actions all about reducing drug trafficking in the U.S. If that's the case, I wonder which country is next - Mexico, Columbia, China? Sheesh. Welcome to 2026.
