4:51 a.m. - It's back to school today, as today is an institute day for teachers and staff to get up-and-running for second semester. That two weeks of the holiday break went quickly - too quickly. At least since last Thursday, we did get a few days of lazy down-time days. That doesn't mean I'm excited about returning to the office and the building, but we can't get to the end of second semester without starting second semester.
Yesterday was sort of a weird day. We had a nice morning with the Southwell grandchildren, and they got picked up by dad around 9:30. I then did a little exercise and jumped in the hot tub and paid a visit to mom and dad. While there I helped get some hay down.
Then Amber made plans with Shawn and Mary to go to Texas Roadhouse for supper. We had gotten Shawn a gift certificate in return for him loaning us his trailer for Karrigan and Michael's wedding. He insisted it was too much and decided we would go out to supper sometime with him and Mary. To me that defeated the idea of a gift certificate, but Shawn wasn't going to change his mind. Chloe was there too, and we had a nice visit and nice supper. Then before heading home, we went to Orion to see the Lees family. Little Kollyns is growing up and walking a lot now with lots of smiles and hugs. And then I spent the rest of the night at home watching a little football before going to bed.
And today's highlight is to spend a bunch of money on a an old SUV that I hope works out for me. I just need it to be a reliable vehicle for a few more years while I work on paying off the truck. This morning on the way to school, I think I'm going to head to Aledo and pick up some doughnuts from Mercer Market to have for the staff this morning as they arrive back to school. At school I'll make my list of things to do to start working on today and throughout the week as students head back to the building tomorrow.
A rough look at the upcoming officiating schedule has what I think is 47 games over the next 43 days (including varsity and fresh-soph) from now until mid-February, and then there will hopefully be some post-season games too. That makes for a busy stretch, and this is often the most challenging time of the school year, even though it looks like this week we are getting some warmer than normal temperatures, which will help a little by allowing students to be outside for breaks rather than inside.
