December 1 - 4th Period

Last entry I talked about taste, and I'm still interested in that.  Plus, I wonder what it might be like in a futuristic society to go to a large indoor warehouse to purchase produce.  Think about venturing out to the local pumpkin patch for that special Halloween pumpkin.  Part of the fun is to be outdoors, to be able to go out into the pumpkin patch and walk up and down the rows and pick that one and only best pumpkin.  Maybe it's like going to pick a Christmas tree...part of the fun is going outside into the farm and experiencing the whole harvest thing, right?

Now, what if your children and grandchildren go to a big warehouse looking place...say like Menards.  The get into the family car, and they drive to Menards pumpkin patch, and they walk through the automated doors into the warehouse and they are directed to vertical farm #12 where the pumpkins are growing.  So they walk down the aisle, or maybe just stand as the aisle takes them there in a controlled environment, so no coats are need.  Oh, by the way, perhaps they arrived in a self-driving electric car.

So the family, then, arrives at farm #12 in the Menards warehouse and waits until the machine circles all the way through and select their pumpkin.  After that a robotic arm is activated to pick the pumpkin and the arm places the pumpkin into a remote controlled wagon or shopping cart that follows the family to the self-checkout aisle and actually accompanies the family all they way out to its self-driving car.  Someone hits the remote control to the back door of the car, and the Menards wagon places the newly purchased pumpkin in the car.

Maybe on the way out a type of engraving machine carves the pumpkin!
