Sunday, May 10 - Mother's Day

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (5/10)
  • From the Illinois Department of Health Website..."During most flu seasons, which typically run from October through May (8 months), between 10 percent and 20 percent of the population is infected with influenza viruses...Over the past decade, influenza and pneumonia have been associated with an average of 3,500 deaths a year in Illinois...since 1992 the highest number of flu and pneumonia deaths was the 4,021 recorded in 1993.
  • WHY I WORRY...amidst all these conspiracy theories...If the first reported case in Illinois was February 29, WE HAVEN'T EVEN GONE THREE MONTHS and we are nearing the the average number of deaths and incrementally advancing to the "high mark" of deaths, so I struggle to hear people and read posts indicating that this Covid 19 pandemic isn't any different than what we always experience with the flu.  YESTERDAY, May 9th, 18.2% of tests completed were positive.  I worry about easing social distancing measures until we have widespread testing available and the percentage of positive tests decreases to at least 10% or less.  I also hope and pray for continued advancement on  treatments and a vaccine while we are practicing social distancing measures, so when this virus resurfaces, we can have lower death percentages that truly are "like the flu".  When this virus is truly "like the flu" (including a vaccine and proven treatment approaches), I'll feel more comfortable lowering my social distancing concerns.  So if people really want the economy to recover, let's improve the Covid 19 situation until it's "like the flu", and then more and more people will feel comfortable with the level of risk associated with to returning to groups of people in close spaces, be it work, school, essential business, non-essential business, or entertainment.  THEN we can have health and economy and start to return to regular life.  OR we can prematurely rush the return and prolong the percentages and see where the number of positive cases and deaths end up at 8 MONTHS.  On this Mother's Day, how many mothers are we going to lose because people refused to wear masks or follow other distancing measures?  How many mothers are we going to lose because we need to "liberate" our states from evil governors?  How many mothers are we going to lose because all this Covid 19 is a hoax, and this social distancing is just a waste of time and money?  We're going to find out in another week or two whether or not our country eased restrictions too soon; I hope we find out that we didn't, but I worry that we did.
  •  Stats

      • 4.3% of all positive cases recorded have died
  • YESTERDAY
    • 416,331 tested (+16,617); 76,085 positive (+2,325); 3,349 deaths (+108)
      • 18.2% of all tests recorded have tested positive
