Friday, May 29

8:00 a.m. - Last night featured more unrest in Minneapolis after a black man died as four police officers were attempting to arrest him.  The unrest included rioting, looting, fires, and even a police station was basically taken over by a group of people, who eventually set it on fire.  The video of the incident is definitely disturbing, with one of the officers with his knee on the victim's neck or several minutes.  The officers were fired, but no charges have yet been filed against the officers, which seems to be causing the anger and frustration of the citizens that are inciting the anger against the city and the police force.  It's tough to watch the people and the riot police that are attempting to stop them.  So far, the riot police seem to be losing.  I feel bad for the riot police that are being ordered into action.  I feel bad for the folks who are upset about the actions of the police officers.  It's a mess, and I'm not sure how it all gets resolved.  This incident as well as the whole coronavirus thing is a reminder that if enough people decide to defy order and governmental requests or laws, then negative consequences are likely to occur.

Things that I NOW think about with the coronavirus. (5/29)
Illinois is entering "phase 3" of easing restrictions.  Bars and restaurants now can have outside serving.  Yesterday Dooley's in Andalusia was "open", so I'm not sure how that happened.  I know they have outside seating, so maybe they just were early.  I thought I heard a report that Illinois is restricting gatherings to 50 people or less for the summer, so summer events are going to continue to get canceled.  The John Deere Classic announced yesterday that it was canceling this year's event.

A news report just announced that South Korea is reinstating another stay-at-home order for the next two weeks after a recent outbreak has occurred.  I wonder if that's what is in our future...two week stay-at-home orders when outbreaks occur.
