Sunday, May 26

7:28 a.m.  - When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.  That's what I did yesterday.  The softball game that was supposed to be Friday night ended up being yesterday at 12:30 at Moline.  Everything I was doing for the day and the weekend was dependent on getting that game done.  And we did!  The day was awesome for weather, and I had some time before the game to run some errands.  The game itself was a close one.  Moline lost 4-3 with the bases loaded in the top of the last inning.  The batter popped up to first base, and that was the game.  Of course the Moline faithful behind the backstop didn't think much of me umpiring behind the plate, but you'll have that.  The thing most people don't understand is that good umpires fully realize they are going to misread balls and strikes from time-to-time.  So when the insults start being lobbed at me from behind me...knowing I really can't and shouldn't do much about it...it disappointing and frustrating but not really surprising.  I really wanted to go to the backstop fence and ask them if the pop out to first was my fault too.  Our crew of umpires did fine...there weren't any controversial calls or questions from the coaches, so that was good.  We weren't always in sync with proper three-man mechanics, but we are the only ones that really knew that.

After the game, I picked up some brats and couple of steaks at Meatheads in Milan.  I found out my brother is going to come home next weekend, so I scratched going to go visit him this weekend.  Upon arriving home, I decided to make it a camping night at home.  I pulled out the slides on the camper, made a campfire, and decided to just have a quiet evening.  I managed to soak in the inflatable hot tub and watch some Batman on MeTV in the camper too before turning in on that wonder mattress we have in the camper.  Even Amber joined me.  Amber didn't last the whole night, but I did...even through the thunderstorm that arrived early this morning.  And as I'm typing thoughts, it's raining hard again.  In fact, it's supposed to rain a lot today and then another round of rain may arrive this afternoon.  This weather had been forecasted, so that's why I wanted to take advantage of the one nice day and night that we were going to get for the weekend.  All-in-all, yesterday was a success.  We weren't somewhere at a campground, but we made due with a substitute.  All of that was better than sitting in front of the television on a beautiful night or going to the casino and losing money.

I'm not sure what today is going to bring.  Maybe in between rain events we can get in a little bike ride.  I will make a trip to visit mom and dad too.  They had a little work for me to complete, so maybe if there is a little weather clearing, we can get that done.

I know tomorrow I'm headed to Fort Madison to go visit Carmen.  I haven't seen her in awhile and probably won't see her before she has her baby, so tomorrow is the day to pay her and Tyler a visit.
