7:47 a.m. - Today marks the end of Spring Break 22-23
Good Things- trip to Dubuque last weekend with officiating buddies
- opportunity to get to used to time change
- opportunity to watch a lot of NCAA tournament
- visited with Chase and Carmen, face timed Cole and visited with mom and dad a few times
- started reading a new book
- went to Rock-n-Roll Bingo with officiating buddies
- I don't think I overspent money over the week-long break.
- paid off the loan on the truck
Bad Things
- didn't exercise enough
- ate too much food and drank too many beverages
- the weather was terrible, so I didn't get outside much (including breaking out the camper)
I did like being with friends last night at that Rock-n-Roll Bingo event for the softball team. I didn't like seeing all the money being spent to support the softball team. I realize that the softball program is now a powerhouse; I realize that money is needed because the school district nor the booster club can apparently offer enough. I just am not comfortable with the level of support this program and other extra-curricular programs receive in finances when the textbooks I have for my English III course are ancient...when academics seem to be relatively unimportant...when attendance at school seems optional at best with most students and families...when school board members are running campaigns based on bathrooms, masks, and CRT issues. Attending that event is fun with friends, but it also seems to be a reminder that we have our priorities all out of whack.
Yesterday, I did work to exhaust myself with some exercise. I didn't go run the St. Patricks Day run in Davenport - a 5K. I did jog a total of 3.1 miles on the treadmill in the basement. I'm too fat to be doing that, so my knees do hurt today, but I was also proud of myself for finally getting some exercise.
I'm not sure what today brings. I'd like to watch some more 2nd round NCAA basketball. I'd like to get a at least a little exercise in. I'd like to go visit with Darren a little before he returns back to his home in Missouri.
Things to do for school
- videotape Monday's presentation and post on Google Classroom
- score and enter Monday's presentation forms
- post lesson plans for Tue, Wed, Thurs, Fri next week
- send presenter confirmation for 2nd week
- check into costs of Fahrenheit 451 graphic novels
- work on research paper prompt
- Write an argument in which you select an historical figure you have encountered so far in English III or U.S. History that would prove to be an effective leader for the United States in 2023. In your argument include research of relevant background information of your selected individual, as well as her/his effective leadership traits (and if you believe those traits would translate to today's modern challenges).
