5:44 a.m. - I have a night off from umpiring and officiating, so the plan is to spray weeds. This little project has been on the list for awhile. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to spray for the season - frost can't be too far away. I know that this doesn't sound like an exciting way to spend a night off, but it will be good to get that done, and it should only take about an hour or so.
Last night was a typical Wilton night...seems like every time I go there, something weird happens. I was supposed to have three junior varsity matches, but Davenport Central didn't bring a team; they only brought a freshmen team. So I had one match and then jumped over and helped the freshmen court. On my way home I decided a stop at Pizza Ranch was in order, and then I stopped for gas at Kum-n-Go for the HHR. E85 gas there was $2.59 a gallon. On the way home after that, the Rockets were still playing volleyball in the gym, so I stopped there and watched them win the second set and match against Riverdale. I hadn't seen them play yet, so it was good to see them. And then I came home, chatted with Amber for a little while, watched some news, and went to bed...not a bad evening.
Today at school it's a Free Read Wednesday, which is always something to look forward to. I shall continue to encourage students to read more on their own by finding a good book. I know it's a battle I likely will lose with many students each school year, but its worth the fight to me. I pushed back the first speech presentations for the Public Speaking course since I was only able to practice with three of the six students. I'm okay with delaying presentation day; the first presentation of the course needs to be handled carefully.
My son Chase had a court session yesterday. He's still in jail, and he has another court date next week. I don't understand it all, and I'm a bit confused, but from what I think I understand, two charges were dismissed from an incident that took place between him and his mom. The confusing part for me is that she was the one that called for law enforcement help with him and then seemingly appeared in court to assist with his defense in having the charges against him dropped. She's hired an attorney, I believe, to assist with his court issues. I hope she knows what she's doing; I've yet to see any indication from Chase that he regrets past actions/behaviors and wants to be better. Until he wants something different for himself, I don't know how any involvement from anyone else is going to have lasting effects.
