6:46 a.m. - One thing I didn't get done yesterday was to complete my volleyball officiating promotion test. The reason for that is that after school and after going to supper, casino, and grocery shopping, the Harrisons arrived. So we played and read books and they had supper. Then I watched a little football and went to bed.
Today, I'm pretty sure this will be the final softball games of the season. I can't see myself working USSSA softball on the weekends. I know it's good money; I know it wouldn't be difficult; I also know I probably wouldn't have the patience to do it. So today I'll drive all the way to Stronghurst to work a couple of junior high IESA regional games and call it a "season"...one that started in March and will then end in September - that's a long time to have my softball gear in the HHR.
Yesterday went well...at least I think. I think my classroom observation went well. I did apparently upset the Black Hawk College Dual Credit Coordinator, but it really was unintentional. I wasn't really asking her to judge the quality of the instructor of the course, I just wanted to understand if this instructor was new or experienced. The students are experiencing some frustrations, and I was trying to provide some answers. To be honest, I question the value of the offering to the students. There is NO instruction person-to-person instruction coming from the instructor - either live or in videotaped sessions. And the students aren't seeing a connection of the assignments to an end goal or even to each other. So the assignments seem random in nature, without receiving much in the way of detailed feedback. In the end, they feel like they are just checking off items on an English to-do list in a random fashion. Plus, apparently to them, they think the other English 101 section in the morning has a much easier course and/or instructor. I don't know how much merit there is to that.
After umpiring today, I'm going to return home to the Harrison children, as I think they are spending the night tonight, and then I believe they are going to go to Sunday school/church in the morning. I'm not sure about that one.
