Wednesday, October 21

4:44 a.m. - I woke up about 3 a.m. to use the bathroom and couldn't get back to sleep.  I guess it's part of getting older.  Plus, I went to bed to early, so I did actually get a pretty good night's sleep, it was just the hours were from about 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Yesterday went okay.  We got through the bus evacuation drills; I got the QC Storm tickets - not only for our school but TRE and AES as well.  I even picked up some simple chocolate candies at Dollar General for the staff and put them in the workroom.  And then we got through the afternoon and got home, and I was going to go for a walk, but that got stopped when Amber asked if I wanted to go with her to run some errands and go see Karrigan.  Unfortunately, while we were out for the errands, Karrigan said she wasn't feel well, so that got canceled.  We did grab Jimmy John's, which was good, but then we headed home.  I tried to watch some NBA basketball because it was opening night.  And yet even the defending champion Knicks versus the new 76ers with Lebron James really couldn't hold my attention.  It's just not basketball - whining, standing, one-on-one crap.  Ugh.

So let's roll on to today.  I've got a student council meeting, and it's the first meeting of the 2nd Assembly of the year.  I know there are probably folks that don't value this effort of mine as much as I do, and I don't have empirical evidence to prove it's value, but I do know that it's a chance for me to connect briefly with 12 different students on a different level.  I sit down with them on the carpet, we learn a little about conducting a meeting and sharing information, and they are expected to listen and respect each other.  Sure, it's only once a week for 15 minutes, but I think it's important.  This will be the ninth assembly since I've been at IC Elementary so that over 200 students that have participated.  That's good, right?  Plus the student council do ocassionally make decisions, and they get a chance to help out with events from time-to-time.

After that meeting, it's right into a classroom observation.  A little later in the morning, there is an IEP.  Then it's survive the afternoon, and after school I'm taking the camper to the Horse Corral Campground at Loud Thunder.  That will be busy, but it's also fun!
