5:27 a.m. - I did not make it to church yesterday morning. We were invited by Kourtney to eat breakfast at Luebbe's, so that's where we started our day. When we got back home, I commenced to getting the garage ready for winter and attempting to mow the yard. Both items eventually got accomplished. The garage just needs reorganized, but the main thing is to get the grill from the back deck around the house and into the garage for winter storage. The other thing is to get the ice melt and snow shovels to front and center for easy access. I also put the bird feeder up since I haven't seen any ground squirrels for awhile. Now I just need to stop at Huffman's and get some birdfeed. Mowing the yard was good too. With any luck at all, that will be the final mowing session of 2023. The tractor didn't really want to start. I've been putting off getting a new battery for it for awhile. I used the batter charger on it enough to get it to start, but I promised it I would get a new battery in the spring.
After getting all that accomplished, I got back inside to see the kick off for the Bears game, and I watched a little football. The Bears still aren't very good. We had a few quiet hours before Amber's family arrived to celebrate Makenzie's birthday. From about 5:30 to 8:00 the house was a frenzy of kids running around and playing. We had Pizza Joynt pizza and some cake and ice cream as a well - even though I opted for the apple pie. Karrigan and Michael were here too. Michael is Karrigan's new boyfriend, and he seems like a really good guy.
Today...one more day of presentations at school, and then we'll get back to a normal routine. With all the fall sports seasons now over, there will be a transition in the building from fall to winter activities. The time change sure has once again changed things. I like this time of year, though...means high school basketball is close by. This week is mostly junior high, but that's okay. I do need to make some money...geez, that weekend was tough on spending. I need to fluff up the checkbook a little bit with some extra basketball officiating checks.
