5:35 a.m. - I was really hoping for a boring, quiet, uneventful day to relax and recharge for this week. That didn't happen. Luke and I went to the farm and saw the Nay-Nays (horses), and that was fun. When we came back we played in the leaves in the front yard, and then Brinley and Brooklyn returned from Sunday school and they played in the leaves too. And then we played outside for awhile until Darrin and Kenzie arrived and picked up the crew. We watched the Bears painfully lose to the Lions yesterday, and then I thought I would try to see Cole and Chase. I thought I would ask Cole if he wanted to go get some supper at Chase's work in Davenport. I offered to pick him up and take him home...just to spend a little time with him. He said he was busy writing, and Amber wasn't feeling the greatest, so I just went by myself. Chase wasn't having a good day; it was awkward at his work; Sue (my ex-wife) ended up showing up - let's just say things didn't turn out like I had hoped. I did end up giving Chase a ride home, and I hope things calmed down after that. When Chase is having addiction issues, he's like a Sailor - Karrigan's young lab dog. There's just too much energy. You want to be a good friend or a good parent, but the energy is just too overwhelming. You can't just simply have a nice time together. It's a horrible feeling to want to connect and want to help and just be unable to do so. And then when I get home I receive a message from Cole with a message from Sue. That definitely capped off the experience. So we ate our pizza, and then Karrigan dropped off Sailor and Sophie for the rest of the night - they are still here this morning. So then I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep from all my continued regret of the divorce from my ex-wife and how things might be different with my children if I would have somehow and someway been able to avoid a divorce and keep our family together - fun times. I hope today gives me a break from yesterday.
