5:55 a.m. - Today's the day most of our RHS students have NOT been waiting to get here. It's finally back to school. I was able to get back nearly all of my "stuff to the classroom that had been taken to the library. What's left now are the shelving units and yearbooks from the closet, but that can wait if needed. The science classrooms and labs were finished yesterday afternoon. Mr. Wade, Mrs. Scarff, and Ms. Nerud didn't have much of a chance at all to get into their rooms, but the classrooms sure look impressive. I hope our students appreciate and care for the renovated rooms. I was able to accomplish many little items on my to-do list for school; I'm sure I'll be adding to those items today as needed. I'm honestly comfortably ready to get going. Last school year was really, really bad, so the bar is pretty low to have a better year this year. I have a busy and challenging morning with this year's schedule. Public Speaking is a good class to start the day off with, as its a little more laid back. Periods 2 and 3 are the challenges, but they are back-to-back, which is nice, and they are in the morning when students are normally awake but not yet fully awake. Then 4th period is the first of two Advanced English sections followed by 5th period PREP, which is AWESOME! 6th period is the other Advanced English sections, and the end of the day wraps up as a facilitator for English 101-102, which will be an interesting change. I've never done that, and I'm interested to see how that dual credit offering works for two reasons. I've often wondered about teaching in college, and I'd like to see how I can improve the English III course at RHS to better prepare students for English 101-102.
By the way, the weight was at 237 lbs. this morning, which is great considering what I was likely at on Monday morning. I did a great job of limiting fuel yesterday, only having the meal at school that was the district luncheon. I couldn't resist lunch from A Guy and A Grill, but I did resist eating anything else the rest of the day. It wasn't easy...that ghrelin was talking loud around 9:30 last night...urging me to go into the fridge or snack cabinet, but I stayed strong! That dang ghrelin!
