5:17 a.m. - I woke up this morning and opened the door to let the cats outside, and a bad noise was coming from the pool motor. That was definitely not a good sign and not a good way to start a Friday. As I approached in the dark to shut off the power, a burning smell lingered, so I shut it off. I'll wait until daylight to assess the damage, but I'm pretty sure it's just burnt out, which isn't a good thing. We won't be doing any swimming for the rest of the season, but I still need the motor to drain out the water in order to winterize the lines, which we would be doing soon anyway. And a new motor will be a nice little chunk of change that I will have to shell out for next pool season - cha ching. Maybe I'll just concentrate my thinking on that it's Friday.
