Wednesday, Sept. 7

5:43 a.m. - So yesterday ended at school before it really even got started.  First hour I was informed that I had to leave the building because Amber had called in sick - she wasn't feeling well and had a cough.  Because she was experiencing symptoms that could have been COVID related, she was then required to be tested, and I had to quarantine until her results came in as negative.  Needless to say I was irritated, but I decided to channel my irritation energy and went to work on the yard and pool while periodically checking my phone to make sure everything was going okay back in the building.  I get the whole tracing and requiring family members to leave and being cautious with the COVID like symptoms, and I get that this effort is likely leading to fewer people contracting the virus which is a good thing.  It's still irritating, though, when I feel fine, and I'm wearing a mask, and I still have to stay at home.

So yesterday, with a little help from my mom and my father-in-law, the pool got closed and most of the yard got mowed.  Both tasks were a battle because of motor problems.  The pool motor wouldn't work, so I had to get a sump pump from said father-in-law in order to drop the water level to even start the process of closing the pool.  At the same time I picked up the pump, I went ahead and took the motor to Rock Island Electric Motor Repair to have them look at it.  The chances of that little drop off costing any less that $400 is very low.  My guess is that I'll be purchasing a new motor, as I've already purchased new motors a couple of times in my marriage with the pool, I mean Amber.  Of course closing the pool presented it's usual challenges, but fortunately I had purchased just enough antifreeze for the job, so while it's not as clean as I would like, and I didn't dump any chemicals in, at least it's closed up for the season.  Please, please let the cover hold up another year, as I don't want to even think about how much a new cover would be for that monster.

As I was pumping water out of the pool with the sump pump, I decided to hop on the the lawn tractor and start mowing the yard.  I got most of the back yard fenced in area completed and notice smoke and the smell of oil...never a good sign.  I stopped the mower and couldn't find the source of the oil leak, so I just went back to work on the pool.  After the pool job around 5 p.m., I tried the tractor again.  I though maybe I just didn't have the cap on tight and some oil bubbled out onto the engine causing the smoke.  Well, after trying to mow a bit again, it appeared that oil was ever so slightly blowing out the front of the engine...again, never a good sign.  That pool little Cub Cadet looks like hell, but it's been running since my marriage to the yard, I mean Amber.  I new one day it would eventually give out, and I think yesterday was the day.  So now I'm going to try to figure out how to get through the rest of the season borrowing somebody's mower and looking to purchase another one for myself.  Needless to say I was out until dark push mowing the sides and front of the yard.

That was a long day, that actually started out being a short day.  I did manage, though, to work off the irritation, and today I'm headed back to school.  I wonder what this day will bring.

6:01 p.m. - Today was relatively quiet.  Amber went to Kenzie's house to help with bugs, so I have some quiet time here at home.  After school, I did try to wash the siding on the house with the new scrub brush I purchased.  I don't think the process is as good as using the magic eraser by hand, but it's a lot safer than being on the ladder.  I want to see what it looks like in the morning. I hope there is a college football game on tonight; otherwise I'll have to watch some of the vice-presidential debate.
