4:25 a.m. - I had trouble sleeping again last night.  I woke up and started thinking about today - mostly getting new tires on the trailer.  I do have some things I need to do beyond just getting over to Discount Tire and getting the new tires installed.  I probably should write up a list of things to do.

Yesterday ...what did we do yesterday?  I went and rode through some of Anne's and Amber's morning bus route.  Then there was a meeting of administrators to discuss attendance policies and procedures.  Then I had to go to an eye appointment that went okay except for the accident that occurred in the parking lot of Milan Medical just after I had pulled in.  Then it was back to ICE after picking up one prescription that was done.  Then I went home, had a little workout in the basement, and then the Southwell grandchildren arrived.  I guess maybe I went to bed too early after turning in after they left.

The best news is that the heat wave is going to break.  Today's temps are a lot cooler than in recent days.  So I hope to get a good day in .... the tires changed smoothly and then setting up the camper at Loud Thunder after that.  I do need to mow the yard, but I'm not sure if that will be today or tomorrow.

Wednesday, July 30

5:50 a.m. - Yesterday was a "hodge-podge" day.  I had an appointment for the surgery knee.  It looks great, and then he showed me how my left knee is deteriorating.  Great.  I did figure that was going to happen.  I also dropped off some used books, and I dropped off a couple of pairs of pants at Monster Sewing to get fixed.  I made it back home in the afternoon only to have Mr. Strachan pick me up and get to a bus driver refresher course.  I did get a good cardio workout in the morning, but then I didn't eat very well yesterday, so I doubt that I had a calorie deficit.

So on to today...I think I'm riding a bus route first.  And I have an appointment at Milan Optical to check my eyes.  And then there is a BOE meeting tonight, but I'm not sure I have to attend that.

Tuesday, July 29

4:32 a.m. - We woke up to hearing the siren going off in the village this morning.  There was weather coming in, but really only a thunderstorm.  Maybe it was worse other places.  I'm up now, though, so it looks like it's just raining, but there does appear to be some power outages according to KWQC news reports.  I have been getting up early recently to try to get some workouts in, but this is a little earlier than most days.  

Yesterday was a good day.  I got in a good resistance workout, and a few things got done at ICE that were on my list.  After getting home, Amber and I went to the Long branch and had some supper and tried out their slots.  Then I came home and watch some movies - good ones again featuring good old fashioned "shoot em up" good guys versus bad guys.

Today is a bit of a weird day with a couple of appointments I have to get to.  I have what I hope is my last knee surgery follow-up appointment.  I also have to attend a bus refresher course.  I need to mow grass for the millionth time this summer, but that probably won't happen today.  

The weather finally is being forecast to change from all this heat and humidity.  With that change, it's time to get out to the campground!  After getting some new tires on Thursday morning, I'm just going to take the camper out to Loud Thunder.  I had thought about West Lake, but the Mississippi Valley Fair is going on this week, so West Lake might be a bit busy.  I just reserved a little different spot than we have experienced at the campground, so that will be a bit different.  It will be nice to get the camper out.

In other news, Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg died.  He had been battling prostrate cancer.  Apparently he had beaten it once, but it came back.  This latest announcement wasn't that long ago, and his public statements had been pretty sad - announcements that indicated that he didn't think he had much time.  He was 65 years old...total bullshit.  Ugh.  RIP Mr. Sandberg.

Monday, July 28

5:06 a.m.-  Yesterday was a good one!  I did get in some exercise by riding my bicycle - not real far; just a couple of miles, but it was a good workout on the legs.  I'm still trying to balance the strength (and flexibility) in my legs.  I still haven't recovered all the strength in my surgery leg; and I still haven'r recovered all the strength in the calf/Achilles in the other leg.  Both legs, though, are getting stronger!  I'm holding out hope that I will be able to run up and down a basketball court.  

After working out, the South well children arrived, and I spent some time with them.  They wanted to go outside despite the heat, so I good advantage and pulled weeds out of the flower bed and trimmed the bushes and the front tree.  After that, I spent some time on the camper to get ready for new tires.  I had never taken off the spare, so I learned how to do that.  That was a good thing for two reasons.  First, the spare looked decent and had air.  Second, I discovered that lowering the spare takes some extra effort than the equipment supplied with the trailer.  Now when I go take the truck and trailer to Davenport on Thursday, the spare is in the bed of the truck for easier access in the unfortunate situation that a tire blows on the way over.  I don't think I will have problems, but just in case I'm on the side of the road, I'll be able to change the tire quicker.  After that lesson with the trailer, I spent some time with the pool....cleaning it, cooling off in it, and getting some sun.  In the process, I did some reading of the new IHSA/NFHS volleyball rules.  The Southwells came back to swim, and Grandma Rhonda arrived too.  After awhile, we closed down by picking up the toys that had been used, and I went inside to watch a movie.  It was interrupted when my mom called and asked for some help with a dead chicken.  I had planned to visit mom and dad anyway, so I chucked the chicken and then had a nice visit along with some ice cream and apple pie.  After coming back home, I finished the movie and called it a night.

Today...I'm going to get in a resistance workout and then head to ICE to see what I can get done.

6:33 a.m.  - Yesterday may have been the laziest day of the summer for me, and I needed it.  Having not had much sleep on Friday night and having had a long week, yesterday's lazy day was just perfect.  I laid around, read my book, spent time with Kollyns, and watched movies.  I didn't get any extra exercise, but I did eat okay.  Today I do at least need to be more active.

The problem is that this stupid weather is still very hot and very humid with periods of heavy rain.  Also, the YMCA in Aledo is closed on Sundays.  With that in mind, I'm not sure what today is going to be like, but I'll figure something out.

Each morning/day, I'm approving additional members to the Rockridge History Network Facebook Group.  This is the first time I've ever attempted to be an "administrator" on a social media page, and I'm wondering how this thing is going to go.  This morning there was a question posed that I was able to research and offer some information.  Of course the effort started another rabbit hole.  There was a different name to Curry School....the name was East Taylor Ridge School.  Ugh.

Saturday, July 26

3:52 a.m. - Yes, I'm up early.  Yes, it's going to rain again today.  Yes, it's going to be hot again today when it's not raining.  No, I'm not going to be running the Bix today.  An alarm went off on Amber's phone around 3 a.m., and from there I couldn't manage to fall back to sleep.  I just decided to get up, feed the cat, have some coffee and a donut - already breaking my eating fast for the day.  I'm just hoping it will make me sleepy, so I can go back to bed. 

Yesterday was okay.  I completed some tasks at ICE, and then I came home and finished the push mowing, fixed the deck wheel on the riding mower, grilled the pork chops and polish sausage, and waited for Amber to get home.  She brought home some takeout from El Barril, so we had summer and then watched some Netflix.  Now if I could just stayed sleeping longer.

Today...no idea what's happening today.  I think Kollyns is going to be here, and I'd like to get a cardio workout in.  After that?  Good question?

Friday, July 25

4:55 a.m. - I'm up early this morning to get going to the YMCA in Aledo because I'm trying to get myself ready for the school year.  If I want to get to ICE by 7:30 and get in a workout at the YMCA, I'm going to need to get up early.  I wonder what it's like to have a high metabolism and not have to work as much to stay lean...at least at my age.  Of course, it was easy when I was younger!  I weighed in at 247 lbs. this morning - definitely not where I want to be.  One the other hand, I do feel both legs getting "balanced" in their strength and flexibility.  Keep on swimming.

Yesterday I was able to get some work done in regards to follow-up on Wednesday's meeting.  I processed all the sign-in forms we received, and I followed a suggestion of the group and started a Facebook group page.  I'm going to have to learn more about being a Facebook Group administrator.  When I got home, I was tired, but I did manage to fire up the mower and get the riding mower mowing finished.  There was a brief shower, though, that washed out the push mowing segment.  I'll need to finish that later today.

Speaking of today, after spending some time at the ICE office today, I hope to find a window of dry weather to finish up that mowing.

Thursday, July 24

5:00 a.m. - The national anthem is currently playing on KWQC TV6, so it must be 5:00 a.m!  :)  Yesterday was a day that had been on my calendar for awhile, and it was a great day.  The gathering we hosted to talk about the history of Rockridge and the display and history efforts went very well.  I had hoped for 10-15 guests; there was triple that.  I presented some information, and the group enjoyed some coffee and donuts and discussion.  My presentation lasted about 45 minutes; then we had questions and answers and conversation.  Folks brought pictures to share, and I learned some pieces to the puzzle that I was not aware of previously.  It was fun to be a part of it.  And even Jim Taylor of WRMJ and RFD visited to listen in on the conversation, included interviewing me for a story he will be producing and putting over the radio sometime soon.  I was really happy with how it all turned out.

After putting everything away for that event, there was an admin meeting - that meeting didn't get over until about 4 p.m. - sheesh.  I guess the start of the new school year is getting close. 

After the day, I was gassed when I got home.  I elevated my legs, took a little nap, and just relaxed.  I did manage to have a good eating day and a good exercise day, so that's good news.

Today?  Well today will be a lot less eventful.  I'm going to be completing some work from both meetings yesterday.  I don't think we have anything going tonight.
