7:20 a.m. -  Yesterday afternoon's junior high softball game went fine.  It had been about a month without any umpiring or officiating, but we got through it.  Yesterday was a pretty quiet day - the Harrison grandchildren were here, and we all went to the school to check things out.  We talked with Kristi and saw Marcus too.  In the morning, I ventured over to Jack and Rhonda's to help them set up their hot tub.  Before that, I went down to Slayden's and picked up the HHR.  They determined not to do any work with it, which is fine.  

Today...not sure.  I may end up working on the swamp area...moving a little dirt and doing some weed wacking.  I also need to get a haircut.  I think I will also watch the IHSA volleyball video and get that out of the way.  I will still need to complete the exams, but I think I will wait until after the clinic on Saturday that I'm attending.

Monday, August 7

6:31 a.m. - All good things must come to an end, right?  So Summer Break 2023 is winding down, but there is still a week left.  I'm supposed to umpire today, but we received a lot of rain yesterday, so that may not happen.  I still need to go get my car and get my umpiring gear loaded up.  Other than that, today's schedule is a little up in the air.  I may run over to Jack and Rhonda's and help them get their hot tub set up.

Yesterday, I was able to get some things done...the big one was mow the yard.  The other big one was to get a look at the back yard and ditch, pay Brandon for his excavating work, and then get an idea of the path forward.  Brandon did a lot of dirt moving while we were gone to Mexico, and now it's time to figure out what to do next.  Basically Brandon dug trenches to try to help the water flow out of the back "swamp".  I was able to mow back there a little yesterday around the piles of dirt that exist.  I think the plan is to wait until the fall and use the piles of dirt that now exist to fill in low spots in other places on the property.  Brandon said there is a guy in the neighborhood that may be able to do that for a pretty reasonable price.  I'm wondering if I can just do it myself with a good old fashion shovel and wheel barrow.  Or better yet, I'm wondering if I can use my mom and dad's tractor - actually, that might be the ticket.

Last night we did go to the casino - that didn't go well.  Amber did well, though, and we got some ice cream and Shivers and Shakes, so that was good.

Sunday, August 6

8:03 a.m. - To Mexico and back!  We arrived home last night around 11 p.m. after leaving our hotel at 9:45 a.m.  The entire experience was interesting and fulfilling.  The highlights were flying out of the country and back, experiencing an all-inclusive resort vacation stay, seeing a part of Cancun, Mexico, visiting the Mayan ruins of Tulum, swimming in the ocean, attending a destination wedding service, exploring a variety of new foods and drinks, and most importantly connecting with the 53 other people that attended.  But now it's back to real life...I have some computer work to complete today, and I'd like to mow the yard before the big rains and storms arrive later today.
