5:50 a.m. - It's Friday! No storms are in the forecast, and it's cooler! It's been a long, long week, and Amber is coming back home today, so she'll have some decent weather to return to.
Yesterday's jury duty was interesting. The last time I did this, all the jury pool was in a separate room, and then if your number was called, you went into the trial room. Not this time. Everyone just started in the trial room, and before anything started, the judge, the attorneys, the workers, and even the defendant were present. And then 14 jury numbers were selected after all the directions and stuff were over, which took awhile. I really was wishing I had brought my book to read. (By the way, I did finish my book yesterday.) After the juror numbers were selected, which didn't include me, the judge proceeded to ask the seated jurors questions and none of the jurors were dismissed as a result. The judge then asked all the group if there was anything else that might prevent them from objectively doing their job, and one of the jurors raised his hand and said to the judge that he had overheard a court worker saying that the defendant had been arrested three times. (The case involved the defendant resisting arrest of a county sheriff deputy.) At that comment, the defense attorney promptly requested to see the judge and the prosecuting attorney in chambers, which was allowed. So everyone left - the workers, the judge, the attorneys - everyone accepted the jurors seated and the remaining jury pool as well as the defendant - everyone silent and feeling awkward - probably for about 10 minutes. Then everyone returns, and the judge proceeds to thank the jury for its service and to not look at the experience as a waste of time, but the trial would be moved to a later date with a new jury pool due to the possibility of a tainted jury. So we all walked out. I ended up being in the elevator with the gentleman who had shared the information, and he seemed a little embarrassed and actually asked the rest of us if we had heard the statement, but no one else in the elevator had. Another juror who had been seated did state that if that's what he heard then he did the right thing in telling the judge. So there you go...that was my jury experience.
After that, I headed to IC Elementary to participate in the admin meeting, which took forever. And I unfortunately added a lot of to-do items to my list as a result of all the information discussed. I then stayed for a couple of hours and headed home. When I got home, Karrigan was at the house along with Kollyns, Luke, and Brinley, as Kenzie had to take Brooklyn to an orthodontist appointment. Then I made some supper, finished that book, and watched some television - Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Today I have physical therapy, and then I'm headed to IC Elementary for a little while. I thought about maybe taking the camper out, but I don't think I'm going to do that. Amber is going to want to just chill out for a bit from all the activity she has had this week, and now I'm seeing that severe storms are forecast for tomorrow. I'm not sure what the rest of the day will bring.
