5:25 a.m. - Yesterday was another eventful day of the week. I went to ORA to have a diagnosis of my knee; had a good conversation with Dr. Hussein, and decided on a path forward for the old arthritic right knee. He informed me that the replacement needs to occur now because the severe arthritis will now only make replacement recovery more challenging as the arthritis continues to progress in the future. I talked with him about being allowed to finish this basketball season and officiating basketball in the future. He said that we could go with the cortisone shot to get through the season, and that he was okay with officiating basketball - just wanted me to avoid excessive pounding on the new knee joint by road racing or running on trails or some other activities that I have done in the past. It all made sense to me and by later in the afternoon, I had set knee replacement surgery in Silvis for April 16. I've informed Mr. Bush and the ICE staff will receive the information this morning in its morning briefing. So I'll probably be laid up for a couple of weeks at the end of April.
After the appointment, I picked up some Panera bagels for the staff, got a few things finished, and then we went and officiated basketball at Geneseo. There was definitely a difference with the cortisone shot. I can still feel the knee and their is pain where the arthritis exists, but it's not near what it was prior to the shot.
So on to today. After "eventful days" yesterday and Monday to start the week, I'd like a "regular day" at school to get some needed items accomplished. I have the first student council meeting of 2025 with a new set of student council students - that's at 2 p.m. I really need to complete my analysis of winter testing results and get certificates out to students. Those two items are a priority, but I do have other items that need to be completed. I wish the temps were going to be warmer to get students our for recess, but we may have to wait one more day for those types of temps.
