Friday, January 31

5:19 a.m. - Time to "get" the donuts.  At least I'm remembering that today is Friday, and we are having our certificate celebration and I need to go get the Dunkin Donuts.  My plan is to pick them up at 6:45 a.m., and of course it's raining this morning.  Oh well, I'm definitely going to melt.

Yesterday wasn't easy.  I got myself embroiled in a verbal battle with a member of the administrative team - again.  It's not the first time, and it probably won't be the last.  After a conversation with Mr. Bush, I have a better understanding...still don't agree, but I have a better understanding.  And with that understanding, I believe I can assist the ICE staff in better understanding.  And then last night's basketball games also were not very easy, but that's okay...we got through them.  One game tonight, one game Saturday, and then keep trying to get my leg recovered.

Thursday, January 30

6:19 a.m. - I have a really bad cold now...that's no fun.  I'd like to stay in bed, but that's not in the schedule for today.  Yesterday was an okay day, but last night was just awful basketball which was painful to officiate.  Yes the legs hurt, but my brain and mental state hurt much more watching that crap.

Today is another long day, and we have two games at Riverdale tonight.  That won't be easy to officiate either, but at least it should be a little better basketball.

It's pay day today, so that's nice.

Wednesday, January 29 - Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad (I think)

6:09 a.m. - This was my Facebook post I entered late last night...

I’d like to tell you about an old friend of mine - Newman, who was a horse that came to my parents’ farm when I was living with my parents during my separation and divorce from my first marriage - one of the darkest, depressing, dismal periods of my life. Newman graciously accepted me and the new farm then and would have a wonderful home with Horse Grandma Cathy Bizarri, but he died today because of developing colic that he couldn’t recover from. A special thanks to veterinarian Dana Milller in helping ease Newman’s pain, as well as Scott Jahns for helping bury Newman on a windy, January day. Newman was a goofball with a kind heart and gentle disposition with people young and old. He was missing a front tooth after one day getting his teeth stuck on a steel corral post. He was okay going into a trailer, but backing out was really scary. He didn’t mind being ridden and going out on adventures and being first was fun until it was frightening. He ALWAYS had to pause entering his stall at night to stop at the rope and stare down the hallway before turning right and getting into his stall. He really didn’t like to be pampered, but he tolerated getting his feet worked on. And cookies and treats were always welcomed. In recent years, he and I didn’t spend much time together, but he had good horse friends and Grandma Cathy to care for him, which is something I and he I’m sure are eternally grateful for. Friends come in all shapes and sizes and colors and don’t even have to be human. Thank you Newman for being such an important part of my life at one of the darkest times - you, my old friend, will be missed and always remembered.

So as you can see, yesterday wasn't the happiest of days I've ever experienced.  The school day went okay, though, and I managed to get through trying to keep up with Quincy and Galesburg - mostly because Quincy had a dunk fest, and the game was over pretty much by half way through the first period.  Also, I picked up the tire to the HHR, and I got it put on, so I could drive it to Galesburg rather than the truck.  Yesterday was 100 day at school; I forgot to mention that.  Many of the students and staff dressed up like old people.  I had my ice pack on my knee and was using my cane, so most folks thought I was dressing up...little did they know that the ice pack and cane were helping me feel better.  They were acting old; I didn't have to act!  :)

So it's a Wednesday now, and Happy Anniversary to my parents - at least I'm pretty sure it's today.  I sent them a Happy Anniversary Facebook message...just not sure if it's Happy Anniversary or Happy Belated Anniversary.  

Let's get through today.

Tuesday, January 28

5:39 a.m. - Yesterday was a quiet day at ICE...thank goodness.  We definitely needed a quiet day.  I was able to accomplish many little things on the to-do list.  And then I met up with Marcus and Tony and hobbled through officiating at Wethersfield.  Two close games wasn't really what my leg needed, but somehow I managed to stay upright, and we got through the night.

Would it be okay if I asked for another quiet day?  And then I have a game at Galesburg.  I tried to get out of it, but my assignor wasn't much help.  Just keep swimming.

Monday, January 27

5:34 a.m. - I just really need a quiet, simple day today.  We start our "school safety week", which is just reviewing our new safety protocol procedures.  That shouldn't be a huge problem.  At the end of the week we have a half-day inservice and a certificate assembly, which is something that is going to take some work.

Yesterday was not as quiet as I had hoped, but we got through it.  There were lots of grandchildren around until about noon, and Jack and Rhonda were over to have some lasgna.  By the time the football game started, the house was quiet.  Between the Eagles beating Washington and Kansas City beating Buffalo, I ventured out and checked the mouse traps and went to my parents to help get them down some hay.  I didn't sleep very well last night, but I had a lot on my mind, and I was a couch potato most of the day yesterday, which probably had something to do with it.  

This morning I need to drop off a tire off the HHR down at Slayden's to get it looked at.  Tonight it's off to Wethersfield for some Monday night girls basketball.  

Please just give me a quiet day today.

7:36 a.m. - I'm just going to say that other than finally getting around and completing an Amplify fidelity check, yesterday was the WORST day as principal at ICE.  I'm just glad they all aren't like that.  

Today I'm going to watch some youth basketball in Aledo, and then I'm headed to Galesburg to officiate what should be a good girls basketball game.  Tonight...stay off my feet and relax somehow.  (That probably means we'll have grandchildren overnight, but that's just fine!)

Friday, January 24

5:36 a.m. - After only having three days of school this week, I shouldn't be so glad it's Friday, but I am.  I do have an important day today, though.  I need to start attempting to complete fidelity checks.  These "fidelity checks" are necessary evils, I guess.  And I don't really know what I'm doing, so I'm taking a teacher around with me to complete them.  This is another "task" that I really didn't see coming when I considered applying for the job.  

Yesterday was an "admin meeting day".  I survived it, got back earlier than normal, and didn't have a whole lot of bad news for the staff.  Then when I got back to the office, I was able to accomplish a few things that needed to get done.

Thursday, January 23

5:16 a.m. - It's Thursday, and it's garbage day.  I should be happy that it's Thursday, but yesterday was a long day.  It's always tough getting back to school after a longer weekend, but yesterday was extra difficult.  And beyond all that, I started the day with a letter fromthe State of Illinois cancelling my bus driver's license....sheesh.  (Later I found out they didn't have my fingerprints from the school, so hopefully that will get corrected soon.)  Fortunately, it was only yesterday was only 24 hours, and we are now back to today!  

I have an administrative meeting today.  Those aren't fun.  I need to get a tire down to Slayden's.  That's not fun.  Just keep swimming.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

5:45 a.m. - Yesterday was a planned lazy day to stay off my legs and try to rehab my stupid left calf.  It does feel better today, but it's still pretty bad.  Damn leg.

It's really cold again today, but nothing like yesterday.  I'll still need to dress warmly - definitely overalls and layers and hat and warm gloves.  I may also take my officiating shoes in too and see if maybe wearing those more during the day may help my leg.  I think I may take my massage gun in too.  I know I sound pathetic, but I really need to get it figured out.  

Today will likely be a rough day at school as the students get back in school mode.  Let's see how this goes.

Tuesday, January 21

8:20 a.m. - No school today.  After having yesterday off for MLK day, today the temperatures are too cold for school.  I wasn't quite sure it was going to happen, but then the call came through last night.  So this week will start on a Wednesday!

Yesterday was okay...Amber and I went to the casino, and I didn't lose, which was nice.  Then I went and officiated at Sterling, and my left achilles continues to bother me, and I can't figure out what to do about it.  Then after getting home I watched Notre Dame lose the college football championship game - bummer.  They didn't get blown out, though, which was good.  

Today, I'm not sure what I'm going to do....ice the leg for sure and try to stay off it.  I think I'll do some reading too.  My guess is that there will be grandchildren here for at least part of the day.  Maybe I should take a shower and get ready for that before doing anything else. 

One thing I'm not going to do is watch much news.  I'm very frustrated with all the pardons that both former President Biden and now President Trump have executed.  What in the hell is our country coming to when people can break the law and just be pardoned?  What's the message for somebody or some group that wants to have their way...just make sure that your guy becomes president, and then you can do whatever you want.  While the big whigs and wealthy folks are at the top of the country, what does that mean for the rest of us?
