5:30 a.m. - Yesterday we had to put our cat down. There are very few pains I've experienced in my life like putting a family pet to sleep. It's awful. There just isn't long term medical nursing care for ailing cats. Stormie probably could have lived longer with daily medicine or costly vet bills, but it just doesn't make sense to do that. Or we could have kept him in a kennel or just dumped him and allowed him to fend for himself and prevent us the heartache of "the shot". None of those things are the right thing to do either, so what was done yesterday had to be done, but it still hurts like hell. I know it seems ridiculous to have such feelings over a simple house cat, but feeling that kind of pain for animals is something that just happens for me. So now we are down to one house pet; may Bella last for awhile. It will take some getting use to being in the house without the second cat, but time helps.
So that experience made for a long day, but the rest of the day was pretty normal. I've set the stage for the rest of the semester, and I've got most students writing their essays. I don't think I will have time to grade and score everything and have grades posted by next Wednesday when we are done with school, so I'll likely have some schoolwork to do over Christmas break. Sometimes things just work out that way. I didn't get as much English content done this semester as in past semesters - mostly due to the new digital SAT and my interest in understanding the difference of the assessment and trying to help students with that. That's okay...getting a little less literature content isn't the end of the world.
Today will be a routine Wednesday I think. It's the last Free Read Wednesday of the semester, so that will keep me busy. Then we have high school girls basketball today.
