6:06 a.m. - The air temperature outside is very cold today...so cold that practically all schools on the Iowa side are delaying the start of the school day at least two hours.  In Illinois I noticed a few schools north are delaying schools, but there isn't much point to schools like Rockridge delaying a start when the length of the school day ends at 1:40 p.m. anyway.  Last night I had an adventure officiating - the floor at Assumption was very slippery and my right knee doesn't have strength anyway.  I fell not once, but twice.  I started to slip and I didn't have the power to push enough and plant enough to recover.  The first one was really embarrassing; I went tumbling in the midst of trying to make a call.  The second one wasn't as dramatic, but happened right in front of the bench.  My pride was definitely wounded.  The deal is that I'm really not in that bad of physical condition at all, and while my knee isn't full strength, it's really not that bad.  Ugh.  As I sad to my partner last night, though, those are the kinds of things that make a person wonder if it's time to just give up trying and call it quits.  The action gets even better tonight - a Western Big Six boys game at Galesburg.  All I can do at this point is try my best and just take the embarrassment if I fall again.  Last night before the game I did get to Hayes Shoe Repair in Davenport and dropped off Kenzie's slippers and my shin guards to get repaired.  It was $38.00, so that was reasonable - definitely less money than to purchase both of them new again.  He said he thought he would have them ready by next Monday.  That's President's Day, so I'll have time to scoot over the river and grab them.  Since I had extra time yesterday, I also got a haircut at a Great Clips store and got my mail delivered along with picking up a book of stamps.  And the game itself was a good overtime game...just wish I hadn't fallen down twice in the process and wounded my prided.

Holy Spirit...
Help me have...

    a humble heart, that I may hear;
    a heart of love, that I may serve;
    a heart of faith, that I may abide in the spirit.
