Saturday, February 1

8:00 a.m. - Yesterday was a good day.  I haven't been able to say that in awhile, so it's even just nice to say.  First, we had our winter testing success certificate assembly, and that went well, except for one student getting sick and vomiting in the gym, but we got through it.  The guests from the ROE were perfect, and the students enjoyed the donuts from Dunkin Donuts.  Next, I was able to get several things done that needed some attention.  Then, we got through the boys game at Kewanee, and it was a "good old-fashioned" ball game.  The gym was hot, there was a pep band, the stands were full, it was a rivalry game...had all the ingredients of just being a fun game to be a part of.   I forgot to mention, I heard from Ms. Lower that she received a job offer from AlWood Elementary in Alpha.  That's awesome news, and I'm happy for her.  Of course it's bittersweet to lose her at ICE at the end of this school year, but it's a great accomplishment for her.

Now today...survive one girls game at West Central, which should be a blowout game, and then continue to rest the legs.

I really like how the certificate assemblies have worked out.  It's very important to attempt to instill in the students to try their very best.  First, I think it's a very good life skill.  Next, I believe it makes the data we receive more valid.  In addition, I think it's important to find a way to recognize the effort.  Completing the certificates is a bit of a headache and "process", but it's not expensive and the assembly doesn't take very long - usually about 30-45 minutes.  I did this type of thing when I was a principal at AlWood, and I'm glad I have implemented the activity at ICE, even though I don't think any other building in the district does.
