7:38 a.m. -  The chiro appointment yesterday didn't help much.  My leg is still hurting...have a few days now to try to rest and recover.  I have to figure something out.  The game we had went fine...it just hurt to take any/all steps, so it's not much fun.  I did manage to run some errands in the morning - got an oil change in the HHR, bought some new shoe inserts at Dick's Sporting Goods, got a haircut....all things I had been thinking about accomplishing.  Last night I just crashed and watched sports.

Today...New Year's Eve...just not sure what today will bring.  I imagine the day will find me.

Monday, December 30

7:12 a.m. - I put some work into cleaning up the mess in the camper made by a mouse or mice, and I set a couple of traps.  And before and after that job, I stopped at my parents' house and asked mom if she could fix my officiating pants.  I also went to Dollar General and bought some bacon and onions to cook on the Blackstone to help season it a little more.  The rest of the day was staying off my leg and being lazy.  This is the last week of that opportunity, but I hope to take advantage of it.  

Today I have a basketball game back at the Erie Tournament.  There's only one game, and it's at 4 p.m.  I'm going to a chiro appointment this morning to see if I can get some relief for my leg.  I'm also going to get a haircut and see if I can purchase some new shoes to see if that could make a difference.  I'll be spending some money today.

10:15 a.m. - I made it through yesterday, and now it's Sunday.  One thing I did discover is a mouse problem in the camper, which is in storage at Shawn's.  That's a problem.  I'm going to have to head over there today and do some cleaning and set some traps.  I got through yesterday's game without too much difficulty...I think I'm going to head to Dick's Sporting Goods and see about some new shoes for officiating.  I don't know that the shoes are a problem, but it's a possibility.  The problem is that I'm going to have to spend a little money for them, and I don't exactly have much cash on hand right now.  I have one more game tomorrow to get through, and then I can have some days off to try to get the leg healed up.

Friday, December 27

6:35 a.m. - Well, it's back to officiating day.  No, I really shouldn't.  The left leg just isn't where it should be, but the right knee isn't either, and I've been dealing with that for a few years.  Yesterday I didn't do much.  I tried to season the new Blackstone griddle I got Amber for Christmas, but that didn't go the greatest.  I think it will be okay, but it just didn't go well.  Then I watched some football - that game between Pitt and Toledo was crazy.  Then Amber forced me to help take all the Christmas decorations down, and then I watched the Bears and tortured myself by watching until the very end.  Bears lose...again.  

So let's see if I can get through today.

Thursday, December 26

11:19 a.m. - Well, I haven't officially started the day yet, so here it goes.  I tried to season the Blackstone today after watching It's a Wonderful Life.  Well, the seasoning job wasn't so wonderful.  I was messed up from the very beginning when I tried to spread the oil with the wrong kind of cloth - it started melting...yikes.  It must not have been a cotton cloth.  From there I tried to regroup and complete the task, but it's just not very good.  Oh well, I tried.  Now, it's time to get the day started.  

Yesterday, we went to Jack and Rhonda's and had a nice lunch and then played some cards.  After that we went to the casino, but I lost.  Amber won, though, which was nice.

Today, I had some grand plans, but I don't think I'm going to get to them.  I'm going to try to exercise, but the leg isn't feeling so good.  I'm scared about trying to work basketball games this week.  The smart thing to do would be to just not officiate.  I could really use the money, though.

I just can't figure out how to get my achilles loose.  I don't know what the problem is.

9:53 a.m. - Today, I don't think we have any official Christmas gatherings to attend, but we do have another gathering to attend on Christmas day, mostly because all the other Christmas gatherings are completed.  No, check that.  I believe my Aunt Mary has an official gathering that I will try to attend if possible.  

I'm going to try to exercise a little today, and then I'm going to try to put the Blackstone together.  I think we are supposed to eat lunch at Jack and Rhonda's, and we will probably play some cards.  Then I'm guessing we will find our way to the casino - sort of a Christmas tradition.  Today, this morning I also wrote out the beginning of the month bills...there are quite a few of them - Merry Christmas to me.

Yesterday, we had the Kiddoo girls Christmas, which included seven grandchildren (minus Kollyns and Caleb).  There were plenty of gifts to unwrap and play with.  I then burned all the wrapping paper and boxes.  Later in the evening I wished my mom a Happy Birthday and visited with her - we had oyster soup and sandwiches.  Paula and Joe and Joe's girls and their boyfriends were there, along with Uncle Bob.  We even played Wizards, which I'm sure made my mom happy.  I don't think I got home until around 11 p.m.

I think I have picked up a pretty good head cold, which is not all that surprising.

Tuesday, December 24th - Merry Christmas - again -- Happy Birthday Mom!

6:31 a.m. - Today we have the Kiddoo girls Christmas.  Yesterday we had the Bizarri kids Christmas.  The day before that we attended my parents' Christmas and Amber's parents' Christmas.  Tomorrow is actually Christmas, and it will be the only day we don't attend an official Christmas.  It's also my mom's birthday today, so I'll be going over to her house this evening to wish her happy birthday.

So far this Christmas season has gone much, much better than last year.  I'm eating too much food, but I am trying to get my leg recovered.  I think I'm going to stay off it one more day and then try to exercise a little tomorrow.

6:01 a.m. - Christmas Breaks begins!  And I have a lot of stuff to do this morning.  I need to wrap some presents, and I need to make some potatoes, and I need to start relaxing.

Yesterday, we officiated two games, but they were fresh-soph games that didn't matter, so it was okay that I hobbled around.  When I got home, I put myself in a boot.  I have it off now, but I'll put it back on when I get dressed.  

After the games, we went to Hooters for lunch, and then the boys let me stop at HyVee to pick up some lottery tickets.  Then I came home and crashed.  I'm so freaking tired.  I need this break.

7:41 a.m. - It's over....it's all over.  2024 at ICE has finished.  Yesterday was Christmas chaos - singing, high school students caroling, staff games, students crazy, and then it's over.  I struggled through a boys basketball game at the United Tournament, and now I just have to get through a couple of fresh/soph games today, and I can take a mental break and focus on the holidays.

Tuesday, December 17

5:48 a.m. - We got through one day of Christmas week, and managed to somehow get through a couple of basketball games last night.  The second one was brutal - two teams that just were trying to go too fast too much of the time and two screaming coaches and two screaming sets of fans - it was a giant cluster.  I'm thankful that time doesn't stand still sometimes.  

Today - we are off to Circa to watch a performance.  That should be fun.  Once again, I will not let my radar down and assume that something unexpected is going to happen.  I just thought of something...what happens if one of our students becomes ill while we are there?

Monday, December 16 - Christmas Week Is Here

5:35 a.m. - Yesterday we attended the Xmas program at church service and seven grandchildren were in the program.  Amber and I both were in the women's and men's choir respectively, so there was a lot of participation from our family.  I almost took Knox up with me to sing, but I chickened out at the last second.  After that I went to my parents' house and visited with them and did a couple of things for my mom.  After that I headed to Burlington to do some Xmas shopping - I spent a lot of money but more importantly got a lot of shopping done.  After getting home I unloaded the HHR "sleigh" and attempted to wrap a couple of Amber's presents - it was a hack job because her presents are too big, but I got them done.  Now I just need to find time to wrap the other presents.  I also got a message yesterday that I have an extra game tonight, which really wasn't what I wanted to do.  I can't get the tendonitis out of my left calf, and it's really starting to upset me. 

Today....just survive and advance.  I'm never sure what my day is going to be like, but I'm always sure that something or multiple somethings unexpected will occur. UPDATE - I just entered and balanced the expenses from yesterday...checkbook balanced, and indeed, a lot of shopping was completed.
