5:35 a.m. - I feel sluggish this morning. I came home and ate last night after officiating, and I ate too much. Sometimes I just feel hungry and don't stop soon enough. I need to have more self control and just go to sleep. Today and tomorrow are two of the longest school days of the year - parent-teacher conferences. I'll get a handful of parents stop in each day, and it's nice to be able to talk with parents ... some parents have concerns and are helpful; other parents are doing a good job of the "parent thing" and checking in with teachers. Honestly, the whole concept of parent-teacher conferences is antiquated and no longer necessary. With 24/7 online access to student grades, there should be no surprises on the academic performance levels of students. Plus, parents now can have access to Google Classroom accounts and see student assignments. Finally, email quickly allows teachers and parents to address any questions or concerns that may exist on a day-to-day basis. So why do we have parent-teacher conferences? I don't know. Yes, teachers get Friday's off, but students get early dismissal days today and tomorrow and then get Friday off. Huh? I've got some grading to complete, and there will be a little matching quiz I'll need to grade tomorrow. Basically, I just want to get some stuff done and pass the time in case only a few parents appear. Perhaps since we didn't have conferences last school year in person, more parents will want to come to the school and conference. I guess we'll find out. Today is a FREE READ WEDNESDAY, and that's always a good thing.
