Friday, October 10

4:54 a.m. - I've been looking to get to today.  Yesterday was long, but it wasn't as long as other days this week.  One of the students I've been dealing with was in my office for most of the day, but I think I made some progress with him.  Let's see if that holds.  I've had two staff issues to work through this, but I think I'm through the worst of those two things.  I did get the camper to Fort Madison.  The campground we are trying out this time isn't as nice, but it will be fine, and it's cheap.  

Today is a half day with students.  I may be able to get some things done in my office today.  Let's get to the weekend.

4:48 a.m. - Yesterday was awful.  I spent the day from about 10:30 to the end of the day testing my patience level dealing with what basically an in-school suspension with a second grade boy.  On top of that, another second grade boy was misbehaving at the end of the day, and I just couldn't cover it all by myself, so I had to call Deputy Rasso to help me.  And then it was off to officiating basketball at Mercer County Junior High.  I was concerned the old legs wouldn't be able to work, but they did.  I got through it. 

On to today.  It's truly been a bad week.  Just keep swimming.  

I'm not a fan of admin meetings, but I have one this afternoon.  I hope the building just stays quiet and staff are just able to do their jobs.  I'd like to get the camper to Fort Madison this afternoon.

Wednesday, October 8

4:53 a.m. - Yesterday was what I hope will be the longest day of the week.  ICE wasn't any fun.  Between a problems with a couple of students behavior situations and a problem with a staff member, it was just ugh.  And then driving to Galesburg to work a long night of volleyball wasn't much fun either.  

I'm probably going to have those same student problems and staff problem today, but I won't be driving to Galesburg.  Instead, I'm off to Aledo to work my first junior high girls basketball game.  That means I have to scramble this morning to get my basketball stuff put together.  And I get to test out my legs, which I already know is going to be a tough test.  I'm still less worried about the surgically repaired leg and more worried about the calf and Achilles in the "bad" (left) leg.  As usual, I wish I would have lost more weight and gotten in better shape.  I guess we'll just see how tonight goes.

5:02 a.m. - Yesterday was a long, long Monday.  I did manage to get some things done at ICE, but then the afternoon arrived and all hell broke loose with students making poor behavior decisions.  Then it was off to United High School for a long night of volleyball.

Today?  Repeat.  Instead of United HIgh School I'm headed to Galesburg.  Just keep swimming.

Monday, October 6

4:50 a.m. - Karrigan's wedding weekend is in the rear view mirror.  Yesterday started with getting my truck turned around with Shawn's trailer and then taking it to Orion to be unloaded and then back to Shawn's to drop it off.  Then it was off to Ducky's Formal Wear to return the wedding garb.  Michael asked me to take the garb of him, his dad, and Karrigan's dad too, which was fine.  Then it was back home, only to leave again with Amber to take more wedding stuff back to Karrigan's and Michael's house in Orion, as well as Baby Kollyns.  Eventually we got back home around 3:30 after a trip through Milan to pick up Amber's prescription and grab some supper from Hungry Hobo.  I was thinking about mowing the yard, but my energy level had been drained, so I opted out of that and instead worked on a couple of teacher observations I needed to complete.  I think I ended up heading to bed around 9 p.m.

Now on to this week.  It's going to be busy, but I have to keep my eye on the weekend adventure of heading to Fort Madison in the camper.  It's Indigenous People's Day a week from today, and there is a half day institute on Friday, so a long weekend is available to take the camper down, travel to the harvest festivals in the area, and hopefully spend some time with Carmen, Caleb, and Tyler.

With an eye on the adventure, it's a week of getting through evening items - tonight volleyball at United, then tomorrow night getting through volleyball at Galesburg, then Wednesday it's the first try at junior high basketball with the fixed knee.  I haven't been able to get any running in lately, so I'm a little worried about it, but it will be a test to see how I'm recovering.

Sunday, October 5

8:55 a.m. - We survived!  Congrats Karrigan and Michael.  I ended up getting home around 1 a.m. to get my boots off before Amber reminded that I needed to get shredded cheese and spring lettuce out of the truck.  I did sneak a sandwich, some chips, and a wedding cupcake before going to bed.  The evening featured a beautiful reception, and Michael's parents did a lot!  

So my truck remains hooked up to the trailer, and it's still loaded.  I hope to get it over to Orion this morning and get it unloaded before this stupid hot temps kick in this afternoon.  Then I need to drop the trailer off at Shawn's, and then I need to get my suit clothes to Ducky's, and then I need to get some school work done and may end up trying to mow the yard.

Saturday, October 4 - Congrats today Karrigan and Michael

7:47 a.m.  - Today's the big day, but I hope to get a few things done before the big day.

Yesterday went okay.  I took a personal day and didn't do a whole lot that was fun, but that's okay.  I picked up my tux, picked up a prescription, picked up the ICE throw back shirts (in Kewanee), and then went to the Black Hawk State Park Lodge to help with set up and be available for dress rehearsal.  Then I got the trailer back to the house and turned around.  Then everybody arrived....Harrisons, Southwells, Karrigan and Kollyns, and eventually it was just Amber, Kollyns, and me.  Then this morning Kollyns felt the need to wake up a 5 a.m., but she and Amber now are gone for their big make-up and getting ready day.  I'm going to head to the farm to help my mom get some hay down, and then get back and try to do some school work.

Yesterday the ICE students did have fire day at the Illinois City Fire Department, which was great.  They do a great job, and I was able to get at least one local television station to be on hand and do a story.  

So let's get this day started!  I put a little work into cutting away plastic around the wheel well of the HHR, so I think it's operational again.  We'll see if it works.

Friday, October 3

5:10 a.m. - It's a Friday.  It's been a long week.  It's going to be a long weekend.  Today is Fire Safety Day at ICE, and I have a personal day - sort of.  I'm going to be at ICE this morning, but once the students are engaged at the fire station, I'm going to head out.  I need to get to Kewanee, Milan, and Moline.  And by three o'clock I need to be in Orion to take the trailer to Black Hawk Lodge.  Tonight is the dress rehearsal for the wedding, and then tomorrow is the wedding and reception.  I have to take the trailer back to the lodge tomorrow night and bring it home.  Then I have to take it to Orion on Sunday, get it unloaded, and then get it back to Shawn.  I told you it was going to be a busy weekend.

But in other news - Go Cubs Go!  The Cubbies beat the Padres last night and advance to take on the mighty Brewers!

6:21 a.m. - Today I think we will have two full school days in a row.  At least for now there is no early dismissal declaration.  I'm sure there will be some grumbles about that.  

I have a training session this morning that I'm not looking forward to.  I have many other things I could be doing. 

We are one day closer to Karrigan's wedding.  I need to find a time to go to Ducky's and pick up my rental clothes.

Putting this upcoming weekend in the rear view mirror will be nice.

5:00 a.m. - We made it to October!  Yesterday was one of the better days of the last couple of weeks.  I was able to get some things done, and then last night's volleyball match went quickly.  I hope today is a repeat of a day at ICE that is doable.  And then tonight there is no volleyball!  A longer night's sleep will be welcome.
