Thursday, October 30

5:56 a.m. - As expected, yesterday was a long day, but it was also an okay day.  We got through a student council meeting, and Jacob Smithers was there to watch, which was nice.  Then he and I went to Mrs. Buckrop's room for her Employee of the Month honor - which was well deserved.  Around noon, Jim Widdop arrived to conduct a health, life, safety inspection of the building.  We then got through the afternoon and then had parent-teacher conferences from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Those seemed to have gone okay.  At least I didn't hear of any big problems.  

Now today...I start by not going to school to start the day.  I'm headed to another check-up on the surgery knee.  Then it's back to school for another long day.  The building will have a "party day" which is like a Halloween party, but there isn't supposed to be costumes not a costume parade.  We are anticipating parents/students violating this, but we'll see how it goes.  Tonight I'm headed to the campground!

Wednesday, October 29

5:21 a.m. - The rain held off long enough yesterday to allow me to winterize the pool.  I really appreciated that help from Mother Nature.  I was able to get all the antifreeze where it was supposed to go, and I was able to get the cover on.  I really would like to get the sand filter emptied and inspected, so maybe I can do that next week sometime.  

The school day was pretty quiet too, which also was much appreciated.  Today won't be as quiet.  I've got a student council meeting to start the day, then I have a couple of visitors from the ROE.  Then in the afternoon, we have day 1 of parent-teacher conferences.  It's going to be a long day.

5:34 a.m.- Life is not cooperating for me right now.  I needed to get the pool finished last night, and then I was called in to help officiate junior high girls.  The guy I worked with was brand new.  Now I would like to get the pool done today, but it's supposed to rain.  I just need a few hours of time.

Yesterday's admin meeting went okay.  I'm glad I'm not part of things moving forward.

Monday, October 27

5:10 a.m. - It wasn't exactly a restful weekend, but I guess it was a good weekend.  I did get the camper over to West Lake Campground for one weekend, but yesterday I didn't have enough daylight to get all of the work done back at home.  I need to get the pool winterized with antifreeze, get the cover on, and all the stuff back into the shed. Hopefully, I can get that done after school today.

It will be a challenging week, but hopefully also a productive week.  It's a week that includes parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, and then we have the day off on Friday.  Those days are also 1:30 dismissal days for students.  Let's just keep swimming.

I have a chance, too, to take a break from officiating, which is nice.

Friday, October 24

4:56 a.m. - Oh it feels good to be finished with high school volleyball.  Unfortunately, it didn't go down without a struggle.  From Rockridge, I got home at 9 p.m. - sheesh.  That was after a long day that included a dentist appointment, an admin meeting, an IEP meeting, and trying to get some other things done.  

Unfortunately today isn't much better during the day, but at least I'll be going out to the campground afterwards.  I have an ROE meeting to start, then back at ICE there is a visiting presentation for students, then I have a 504 meeting that I have no idea what I'm doing.

Thursday, October 23

6:37 a.m. - I spent the night in the camper at Loud Thunder last night.  It was awesome.  I watched two episodes of Hogan's Heroes and went to sleep and slept like a rock.  It's cold this morning...first time below freezing, but it still felt great.  Last night we officiated girls junior high basketball - never fun, but we got through it.  Today, I'm not starting the day at ICE...I'm headed to a dentist appointment, then I'm getting back to the Unit Office for an admin meeting. 

I have one more high school volleyball game tonight at Rockridge...it will probably not be easy.  I'm hoping to spend another night in the camper because I once again am not going to ICE tomorrow morning...this time for an ROE principals' meeting.

Wednesday, October 22

5:34 a.m. - Yesterday was a quieter day at ICE.  I was able to get around to a few classrooms to do some "principal" things like informal observations and visits to classrooms.  Then we went to officiate some volleyball at Sherrard, and we managed to have a late night, but it could have been later.  

Today is a little busier - student council meeting to start the day, and then we have bus evacuation drills.  And then it's off to MerCo Junior High for girls basketball.  My legs are a little tired, but we'll see how it goes.

Tuesday, October 21

4:41 a.m.  - Yesterday was the quiet day I had hoped for.  One of my friends went home, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but it wasn't my role to fight it.  I was able to get some things done and relax a bit - something I hadn't had in awhile.  Last night's junior high girls basketball went okay too.  The legs continue to get stronger, which is good news.  

I hope it's okay if I ask for another quiet day today, as things seem to pick up as the week continues.  Tonight I go back to Sherrard for volleyball officiating.

Monday, October 20

5:01 a.m. - Yesterday started by getting the camper ready to pull out.  Then I went to Carmen's church service, and I sat with Caleb.  Then it was back home, or in this case to Loud Thunder.  After that, I still had things to do.  I went to Menard's to get antifreeze, stopped and mom and dad's for a visit, picked up some firewood, went to Shiver's, and then went back to the campground for a bit before heading back home for the night.

Today, I just want a decent day.

Saturday, Oct. 18

5:19 a.m. - I'm at the Rodeo Park Campground, and I was awakened by a lightning strike that was really close.  I hope it just hit a tree and didn't hit the camper or my truck.  It was so close, that I could smell it.  I want to go out and take a look, but it's still dark.  So I'll wait until the sun comes up and then take a look and see if there is any damage.  

Yesterday was awful.  Another student behavior incident resulted in me having to call for help.  It was so sad.  It just felt good to get out of there and get to the campground.  I went to the casino for a bit, and then I went to the Hoenigs.  We ended up going to Pizza Hut.  Then I came home and I watch some meTV and went to bed.

Friday, October 17

4:56 a.m. - Well...it's TGIF, and it's been another long week.  Yesterday, was a long afternoon at ICE after getting a few things accomplished in the morning.  Then it was off to Monmouth-Roseville for some volleyball.  This weekend perhaps won't be as rainy as the forecast called for yesterday.  The winds are now predicted to pick up on Sunday, so pulling the camper to Loud Thunder may be be interesting. 

Yesterday after school, there was a meeting with parents of a child that sometimes has behavior issues.  I'm not quite sure what to make of it.  I guess I'll ask some more questions today.  I know I ask this a lot, but I'd really appreciate a smooth day and then some enjoyment again at the campground.

5:32 a.m. - It's Friday Eve.  That's the good news.  ICE may be problematic again today, and I have more volleyball at Monmouth-Roseville tonight.  Just keep swimming.

I did send a message to my mom to ask her if she wants to do some camping this weekend.  I'm not sure if she'll go or not, and the weather isn't looking real cooperative, but we'll work around any weather conditions.

Yesterday was okay.  I did get through ICE, even though there were some things to work through.  Last night's trip to Williamsfield also wasn't great, but working with Jacqy made it more fun.

Tuesday, October 14

4:40 a.m. - All good weekends must come to an end, but at least the work week is starting on a Tuesday!  Unfortunately, long weekends often lead to difficulty for students getting settled into the school day.  I guess we'll see how today goes.  Yesterday was productive in getting the yard mowed, so I won't have to worry about that.  I've got a board meeting tonight, and then I think I'll be headed back to Fort Madison for a night in order to check on the camper and get my medicine for my eyes.  I forgot it yesterday, and I don't want to go all week without it.

The Bears won!  I fell to sleep while watching, but I did see the end.  The news is talking about holiday spending?  As in Christmas holiday spending.  I always welcome Christmas, but I'm not sure I'm ready for it yet.

Monday, October 13

6:27 a.m. - What a wonderful weekend.  Friday, it was just Amber and I at the Rodeo Park.  Saturday was all day with Carmen, Tyler, and Caleb.  We went to Dutchman's Store, Bel-Mart, Harvestville, and Appleberry's before returning to the Rodeo Park and playing on the playground.  Then on Sunday, it was the Southwells, the Lees, and Grandma Rhonds on to Appleberry's, Harvestville, and Hinterland Dairy.  Then Carmen and Tyler came to the campground to have some supper with us.  Then it was Carmen and me together today taking an adventure to Keokuk.  We started out at a little coffee shop in Fort Madison, and then we went to the national cemetery in Keokuk and then the park with the statue of Keokuk, then over the bridge to Hamilton, IL, and then back to Keokuk for some lunch at Dr. Getwell's.  We wrapped up the day with some ice cream at Hall's.  And how to end the weekend - by mowing the yard when I got home!  Now let's watch the Bears win.

4:54 a.m. - I've been looking to get to today.  Yesterday was long, but it wasn't as long as other days this week.  One of the students I've been dealing with was in my office for most of the day, but I think I made some progress with him.  Let's see if that holds.  I've had two staff issues to work through this, but I think I'm through the worst of those two things.  I did get the camper to Fort Madison.  The campground we are trying out this time isn't as nice, but it will be fine, and it's cheap.  

Today is a half day with students.  I may be able to get some things done in my office today.  Let's get to the weekend.

Thursday, October 9

4:48 a.m. - Yesterday was awful.  I spent the day from about 10:30 to the end of the day testing my patience level dealing with what basically an in-school suspension with a second grade boy.  On top of that, another second grade boy was misbehaving at the end of the day, and I just couldn't cover it all by myself, so I had to call Deputy Rasso to help me.  And then it was off to officiating basketball at Mercer County Junior High.  I was concerned the old legs wouldn't be able to work, but they did.  I got through it. 

On to today.  It's truly been a bad week.  Just keep swimming.  

I'm not a fan of admin meetings, but I have one this afternoon.  I hope the building just stays quiet and staff are just able to do their jobs.  I'd like to get the camper to Fort Madison this afternoon.
